After removing the shields I like to put the bearings on a toothpick between two cocktail onions. I then drop the toothpick in a big martini glass which I fill with ice cold gin. I swirl the toothpick around in the glass a few times and then drink the gin. Sometimes I need to refill the glass a few times to get the bearings fully clean. When I'm convinced that they're clean I eat one of the onions, drop the bearings onto a clean/dry bath towel, eat the other onion, and then ...
I find the higher proof/better/dry gins work best for this process, and I don't use vermouth.
The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.
