kryptos
im a college student on a very tight budget. i was looking into getting krypto classics (80mm) that would pair with an evo which is the board i'm aiming for right now. i'm mainly going for these because of the cheap price, but are they suitable for bombing and cornering? i heard these things drift like no tomorrow.
all things equal, i'm looking for affordable wheels that can bomb and grip good!

Re: kryptos
if they're the solid blue ones, go for it.
if they're the clear ones, you'd be better served with some of the 81 mm sector 9 bomb hills, which also arent expensive.

Re: kryptos
the new thane is not suppoesd to be as good as the old stuff. ive never ridden the clear thane, but the old ones are decent imo..... theyre probably not horrible, but maybe you should also check out the landy hawgs or try to get some used wheels

Re: kryptos
hmm, i was considering the bomb hills wheels as well. but do you guys have any experience with the new thane's performance, like grip-wise? there are lots of hairpin turns where i skate (hawaii) and im not too skilled at ripping through turns yet.
i've seen some speed vents on sale for 50 bucks, should i consider these if the kryptos aren't worthwhile?

Re: kryptos
All Kryptos suck, even the older opaque Kryptos.
Why? No grip. They're great for drifting and whatnot, but they can be scary in fast hard corners when you want to stick to your line.

Re: kryptos
i honestly like the new clear red urethane ones, super awesome wheels, everyone complains about the new formula, i actually think its just as good if not better than the old stuff, more grip but just as predictable as ever...
ive had both, and if i had to choose, i would pick the new ones.....really!

That just made me wonder if the weight of the rider might provide more grip.
I know I am a pretty solid dude, (around 200lbs.), Ive never had problems with kryptos old or new formula doning anything other than what I want them to.
Would my extra weight make a difference?
(ummm,.....Im sure I weigh more than you ben)

thats what makes it so fun. if you can control a krypto you can control almost any DH wheel

Re: kryptos
Well at first I really liked them, bought three sets of 85mm (mostly out of the sheer hype surrounding blue Kryptos). I wore down one set and started on a second when I realized how quickly I shredded the first set, and I was going faster and wanted to stick and not have to worry at all about sliding out (there is always this car parked on the outside of a turn on my favorite road; a cop car, and I want to be sure the back of my helmet does not come in to contact with that particular vehicle). For that I suppose I'm a poor rider in that I want as few things to worry about as possible when I'm riding. Hell, I don't care if that deems me a poor rider, I dig traction. I also don't like large, large-cored wheels.
However, I did notice that my 70mm 80a Zags seem to hold speed better than the 83mm Kryptos (exact same bearings).

Re: kryptos
My only complaint about the new urethane Kryptos, is that they don't last as long as the old formula. Other then that they are great. Grip when you need it, and slide when you want.
Check my post about seeking an alternative to them for more info.
Good luck!
