Different sizes of trucks & wheels in Front & Back ...
Toying with trucks & wheels options the other days, i wondered if that could be interesting to have differents sizes of trucks and/or wheels on a board, front & back ... Of course i thought more about the option "narrower truck and smaller wheels in front" but i didn't take the time to try it. What do you guys think ?
Except for the weird dragster look, i guess that could add some nervousness to the ride while still stable on the back ... but it's only a guess and perhaps the craziest thing to do.
Any ideas ?

Re: Different sizes of trucks & wheels in Front & Back ...
i've done some thinking on the issue as well. i actually had planned to set up a board in a similar fashion in my popsicle stick days. unfortunately, the screws on my trucks were totally messed up, from wear and tear, and i couldn't manage to get the wheels to go back on.

Re: Different sizes of trucks & wheels in Front & Back ...
I've wondered, too. Not so much about trucks but the wheels. I got a really good deal on two blue 76mm Avilas. It's kind of hard for me to buy some more Avilas because none of the online vendors I choose to buy from carry them. Sometimes in the buy/sell forum people will put up the smaller Hot Spots or Cambrias and I wonder if it would be okay to run some 76mm wheels with some 69mm wheels.

I'd personally go with a narrower trucks but bigger wheels up front. I know Chaput posted a thread on this topic a while back, with some photos and diagrams.

hmmm, can't find the thread
Why would you put bigger wheels on narrow trucks ? what would it feel like, did you try it ?

Re: Different sizes of trucks & wheels in Front & Back ...
I think the smaller truck in front is a great idea to try on a downhill board. If any one has 150mm hangers Im totally gunna try it. I dont think the wheel size would do much. Maybe exelerate faster but still maintain flats? I dunno, sliding would be wierd, and you would still have to watch out for things with the smaller wheels.
EDIT: I just thought of 83mm Fly's & 150mm in front. 85 vents & 180mm in back.
Slidy-ish (since its in front) in front, grippy and stable in the back.. and you can run over everything. CRAZY!!
2nd EDIT: Or switch that idea, so your back end could whip out around hair pin corners, but still maintain speed. Hopefully, without dieing of course.
ideas, ideas......

isn't it the exact opposite to the idea of stability on the back and turniness on the front ? I mean, this would hardly turn, don't you think ?
We should try it at extreme scale : i have 219 trackers and 110 RTS, 85 mm flywheels and 65 mm polkadots oh oh oh, what fun ! ... quoting nateisgreat9 : "Hopefully, without dieing of course."

Re: Different sizes of trucks & wheels in Front & Back ...
isn't this idea similiar to people who put four wheels on the back truck to give it more traction

No, that idea is just simple. The wider the wheels are = greater size contact patch = more traction.
We are talking about the hanger width's and wheel sizes mixed n' matched that hopefully will compliment eachother with a new type of combinations that give greater stability, traction, handeling, and possibly even excelleration.
Not just..... contact size.

Still, i always thought (and felt) that traction comes mainly from the back, so it seems weird to put wider wheels on the front ... anyway, i'll try on my vanguard so that i can switch easily ... as long as it stops raining here.
Hey, that would need a lot of risers on top of the smaller wheels to keep the deck flat too ... or shouldn't i try to keep it flat ? What do engineering and physics would tell you, samhell ?

Well, if you did not put risers in, the pivot angle of the trucks would be different.
(Sorry, I know this question was directed at samhell. But for some reason this subject really interests me)

I have always thought about big grippy front wheels and slide wheels in the back... think ULTIMATE DRIFT BOARD!
They dont even have to be different sizes, 65mm or 70mm kyrpto's with 65mm or 70mm slide wheels!

Not pumpable though ... it's funny because when i thought about combining sizes i thought somehow it could be interesting for slalom (with small trucks/wheel in front). That will be definitely fun to test (just don't forget the helmet ) !

Hey man, you're more than welcome, this is an open forum after all ... i'm just sorry we were moved to the "Wheels" sub forum...

Ya, I first looked in the Trucks section, and it wasn't there. So I just kept going to General.
Then I finally figured it out.

Re: Different sizes of trucks & wheels in Front & Back ...
Back in '85 ('86?) I rode a madrid longboard with different width trucks for awhile (indy215 in front, sixtrack in back). It was mainly due to lack of cash, but I dug it. Rode it all over, cruising, backyard halfpipes, parking garages, it was the 80's I had one board.

On my dedicated pumping board I run an Original S8 up front and an old 106mm slalom truck in rear. This is the most effortless pumping set up I've ridden for flatland.

Seen from the tricycle perspective, you're right of course, now you convinced me
