why wouldn't the harder wheel be better? Aren't they all about the same shape edge-wise?

because 101a is nothing but a marketing gimmick. theres no such thing. It goes to 99a then on to the "e" scale I think? dont quote me on that.

Get Sergios, they were meant for sliding where as the powells are made for park/pool

    c'mon man, its on wikipedia!

for skateboarding purposes, there are two scales, an "A" shore, and a "D" shore. 100a is the hardest urathane can be, and saying that its 101a isn't neccicarily a marketing gimick, its just straight up wrong.

That said, the A shore gets hard and imprecise to measure past 90a, so there is a different measuring scale, in D. THE D SHORE IS NOT HARDER THAN THE A SHORE. Think of the D shore as a magnification of the A shore. So, 30d would equal roughly 80a, and so on.

that said, i'm going to have to go with the Sergios as the better sliding wheel, if for no other reason than thats what they were designed for (as opposed to powels "park" wheels). They also have a lathed contact patch, which promotes even wear and less flatspotting.

    bah, another urethane argument?

see the link in my sig please...the D shore is, from what i understand, fully contained within the A shore, and is just a more precise way of measuring hardness. yes, powell does use 101a as a measurement, but powell/bones doesn't like to use durometer readings at all (see hardcore bushings or any sort of bones wheels).

that said, i'd use the sergio slide wheels before i used the other wheels...but for me, the best would be earthwing superball slide A's
yes, an uber-grippy, square-lipped slalom wheel IS the best for sliding

The super-hard powell park wheels will be terrible for sliding. They're sticky as all get out. Go with gravity or earthwing.

I wouldn't say sticky, I slide high 90's Spitfires because they are what I have (a lot of) but if I had a choice I would definitely go with EW or Gravity Sliders the really do slide better
