Advice for new set of wheels?
Hey all.
I bought a Vanguard 3 months ago, and the gumballs have broken in and are sliding everywhere on my carves. Not really my style.
I want some opinions on the grippiest wheels I can get. I was thinking Pink Big Zigz, or Grippins (75a).
Additionally, I'm looking to swap out my stock yellow bushings from my R II's for a carvier alternative. Any suggestions?
Thanks. :]
BTW, I weigh 145.

Re: Advice for new set of wheels?
What duro are your gumballs?
Bushing selection will depend on your weight/riding style,
and what wheels you pick.

Re: Advice for new set of wheels?
not to hijack your thread or anything. but it seems we have a common problem. when i carve or pump hard or take a corner at a mild speed my back wheels slide out like crazy. its scary as hell. but im actually coming to like it. how cool would it be to just drift around corners!
my gummies are 78a btw
i find surprisingly that 76mm 78a? s9 powerballs? my stock wheels are a bit better at gripping in tight hard turns. but they wear out soooo fast. and leave a little red streak when they slide. i can see all the red marks where i turn hard on the road and sidewalks.
hey guys watch this, watch this.

Pink 75a Big Zigs may work for you.

^ really, even though they are 75a they look like if you pumped them hard enough the back would slip

Re: Advice for new set of wheels?
I have the 85mm white speed vents and i've never slid out on them. I think the blast waves are very similar. Someone correct me if i'm wrong but I think they'd be perfect.

I am going to back up those 75a blastwaves. They stick like goo, but are too sludgy to slow you down.

Re: Advice for new set of wheels?
If you're sliding out the rear wheels with Gumballs, I think you might try moving your rear foot an inch or so back on the board, and focus on moving your hips back an inch or so when you crouch into the corners. If you're putting a hand down on a slide glove, put less weight on that hand.
If you're sliding Gumballs, the 85mm Speedvent will have you all over the place. That's not a traction wheel. After you get some time on the existing wheels down and feel like you can rail the same turns better with your weight distribution handled, THEN take a new look at getting some new wheels.

It's not so much my concern with drifting as it is my concern with sliding out just while carving.
Any other suggestions besides the blastwaves? No approvals for the grippins?

Re: Advice for new set of wheels?
Keep your weight forward. and tighten your back truck, that should stop the back end "fishtailing drift"
Also, I have grippins in 75a. a great wheel 5 stars. I wish I had gotten them in the 78a or 81a duro. The 75a is grippy and fast, but I notice the wear pattern on them before I flip them and it seems like the outter 10mm of contact patch doesn't do anything because the urethane is too soft and not pressing against the ground except where the hub is. A harder formula might actually get better grip, I have heard good things about the 81a's. Needless to say my 75a stick like glue at carving speeds. At higher speeds you can feel them travel when you turn. They don't drift or slide, but you can feel the wheel wanting to track sideways when you carve at speed. also I have had them come out from under me. No wheel will grip perfectly, but grippins in IMO are a tribute to their namesake. For something bigger. I stepped up to Landy 77mm HAWGS. I would definitely get these or grippins because they are centerset hubs and will last an eternity. Gumballs and bigzigs are offset and cone overtime.
