Reflex 'Fishballs!!!

Brothers and Sisters of the Revolution, we have been stoked to skate, hang out, build boards and walk back up the hill with you all, whether in person or on this big road we call the internet. Which wheel is the best for sliding? Who will break 80mph, first? Are pintails dead, or the best shape ever? What was that session like on your hill with all those people, or alone? It's all about the flavors and varieties of longboarding and skating on fast boards that turn, slide and swerve -- and it's all about the varieties of skaters from all over the world that get together and talk about it.

We're now ready to reveal something we've been working on with a friend of the site and of longboarders everywhere, the Mad Scientist, Chris Chaput. It's a wheel, poured for you and to be available to you right here on the 'Fish. We call them 'fishballs and they're coming next week!

The 'fishballs are 72mm, radiused-edge longboard wheels, poured in the shape of one of the best "longboard shapes" we've ever skated: the Powerball. This is a wheel that carves with authority, drifts with predictable smoothness and rolls dang fast! There's a Powerball review, here. So, it didn't take a genius (lucky for us) to ask for the same shape in a different color, or even an uber-thane... and you all asked. We did, too, and your wheels have been poured in 80a, Reflex urethane. They're curing as we post this.

Skateboarding is supposed to be fun! The 'fishballs are all about that. They're fast, they're grippy, they're durable and they're only going to be available to buy right here at Silverfish. Anyone can get them, although members of "the Board Room" will have the first shot at 'em, next week. (That "early sale" is just our way of thanking 'fishheads that have been supporting the site, and there are enough sets of 'fishballs for us to guarantee you all will have a chance to get 'em.) They are limited in number and we're going to try to limit purchases to one per person/address... we want to see you skatin' em, not eBayin'!

So, if you've been keeping an eye on our Newsflash section or read in the Board Room forum, you may have known this was coming for a little while. We're announcing and posting things as fast as we can...and will post a photo of the logo-ed wheel as soon as they've been done (it's being done right now). All we've got now are bare, naked protos.

I'd be willing to bet that it will be a couple dollars more. I believe I remember having read that the Reflex formula is more expensive to produce than the traditional Abec11 formula.

I love Powerballs. I love our Classic urethane and I Iove Pink. But not everyone can handle pink. A lot of people like the Reflex formula urethane and are itchin' to try it outside of the Retro ZigZag series of wheels. So why not kill two birds with one fish? If you like the look of Lime green urethane popping off of nice black cores as much as I do, you're going to love the FishBalls. Add a spiffy graphic and the makeover is complete. But how do they ride?

Well, "amazing" is the word that comes to mind. It's not supposed to have this much traction - but it does. Yet when it comes time to throw them into a slide, they submit. They give you no lip - no idle chatter. They just drift until you're ready to hook back up, which they do as smooth as butter. Speed? Well that just comes with the territory now doesn't it? The 72mm size provides a great balance between "quick" and "fast". There is sweet spot in the all-around wheel category, and this NAILS it. I see a place for these in most every skater's quiver. It's pretty cool that the Silverfish faithful are doing just one wheel, and that it's this fun. I'm really happy to be on board for this one!

p.s. A couple of bucks more than Powerballs is a really good guess.

Pink powerballs are sick wheels, I had a ton of fun doing a random session on those. I bet these wheels will be amazing!
