Getting two new sets of wheels
I'm going to California for the summer and I need some opinions. First off, I'm an average downhill rider. Not great, not bad, and I ride an evo with old grizzlies. (Soon to get some some new grizzlies) I weigh 140 and I'm 5' 9, wear size 10 and take my coffee strong.
One pair of wheels I was originally looking at was originally looking at were a pair of grippinns.

I'm not sure what duro to get, but for the heat I want some higher duro wheels because my 75a blastwaves would get coned in 5 minutes with the temperatures the roads reach there, not to mention more sliding due to harder runs. How does 81a sound for DH? Or maybe a pair of flys? My brother loves his and I like them too except in winter when the roads are cold and it can't keep grip in hairpins, but that doesn't matter in Cali. I don't enjoy gumballs much though, no matter what duro.
Another company I was looking at was Seismic. I loved my 78mm 78a Blastwaves, but they are nearing their last days as I start taking more technical runs and are almost ready for karrot. By the way how to you think they will be as bushings? But back to the point, The new black ops 'thane looks nice and hopefully wears slower (any reviews would be awesome) So how about a set of of the new 78mm speedvents, and if so in what duro?
79a
85a
or some bigzigs
zigzags

In other words, what would you get because I can't demo anything. There's no shops near me.

Fly wheels are good 81a would be a nice duro. the black ops look awesome but i've never rode seismic wheels so couldnt help you there.

Id get seismics if i could afford them.

Re: Getting two new sets of wheels
i like smaller diam wheels so i like the grippins, for you id say the 81a or maybe the 84a, if your feeling it. sticking with the smaller diam theme, i'm also recommending the new black ops hot spots in again 81a or 84a .

I wouldn't rule out alligators either.

Re: Getting two new sets of wheels
Flywheels, S9 Race Formula, Big Zigs, Earthwing superballs 76mm,
70mm wheels may prove to be a tad small on an evo unless you use risers. if i ever got an evo, lime big zigs would be my wheel of choice
those 79a speed vents are looking yummy too
dont worry about temperature affecting your wheels much. it doesn't get THAT hot in california, but i wouldn't buy wheels lower than 78a anyway.
when in doubt...81a flashbacks

Re: Getting two new sets of wheels
lol, yeah santa cruz wont get that hot.
i ride in the mountains sometimes during winter so i have felt the temp difference in my wheels. but i have to say that its a minimal difference considering all the other factors in DH. the sliding out of the 81a grippins you mentioned probaly wasn't the temperatures fault.
