I've always read that zigs slide great once broken in. Just to clarify though...would this make them less grippy? I mean, the fact that they slide well would mean they're less grippy right?
they become marginally less grippy, they are able to slide out more easily when you want them too, but they wont just slip out on you during a turn unexpectedly anymore than when they were new. if they do its very marginal.
i've just recently flipped my lime zigzags (the outside of the wheel is now facing in)...
and wow what a difference! They grip AMAZING. Before i flipped the wheels they were sliding out soo easily on carves and even hard pumps, didn't make for a very smooth ride. But now they're flipped it's awesome. pumping and carving as hard as i like with 100% traction, such a different ride, so much smoother. It's such a sweet change.
Also, with the wheels flipped they're sliding sooo much smoother too. When i un-weight and push out (without un-weighting they won't slide) they let go smooth, slide smooth and hook-up smooth. Joy. Again, with them un-flipped they chatter quite badly and have a harsh hook-up.
These wheels are well worn in too, all of them are quite coned, and all edges rounded from slides.
Perhaps with them flipped im riding against the some sort of slide grain i'd worked into the wheels earlier making them grippier?
I just couldn't/can't believe the difference in the ride.
All wheels eventually lose the grip they had when they were new/newer. With Zig Zag's this loss is slightly less annoying when you have "coned" them which then helps them grip again..though differently.
