Can you tell me a good durometer for both sliding and commuting/cruising/carving? Or maybe even a good wheel? Basically, an all around wheel/durometer.
Depends on the wheel... I find 80a or 81a a pretty good medium for me.
But then again, I've only had the 81a Gumballs and the new 80a InHeat's

Shape is almost as important as duro, a rounded lip wheel in soft duros will still slide well. A wheel that would seem good for you would be 84a strikers or powerballs.
It also depends on what you mean by sliding, how warm the area you're skating in is and how fast you're going. I've got a set of blue kryptos, some 88a strikers and some orange bigzigs and they all are cool for kicking out in their own way. Then again, I also cruise and carve around my deck with 65mm 95a pool wheels a lot too...
Well to be more specific, I personally prefer thane' that is between 78a and 83a, I find that those duros are comfortable for me. But I had 97 fly's that were 78a and they were still far to drifty for me because they hardly had a lip. Where as 78a flashbacks are perfect for me because they have a slighter lip and 80a zigs are good for me because they have a bigger lip.

The durometer doesn't depend on the setup, but the wheel does, that was my point. The question was about both of them. But as you said the personal preference is also very important.
