Default The Loaded Dervish

I am prepared to be flamed. That's o.k. I'm 40. I'm a man.

Seriously, I have reviewed the Dervish threads extensively, and I have 2 questions regarding trucks for which I can't find answers.

First, I want my Dervish to be as low and easy to push as possible. Do Chargers, Randalls or Paris sit any lower than the others?

Second, I don't want to slide. I want it as grippy as possible while carving. I plan on using grippy BigZigs. Are any of these trucks more anti-slide than any of the others? (propably a really dumb question, but I have wondered if a lot over whether some trucks slide easier or grip more). Thanks!!!!

P.S. I understand that a lower height may mean a board that is easier to slide because I would have less leverage over the trucks- but I want the best of both worlds.

I don't think you'll want to intentionally make it that much lower, I own one and as a drop through it is pretty low and easy to push. That being said I added 1/8th inch risers to protect the board, which would have a miniscule affect on how low the board is. Personally, I would make it any lower. Its already a pain going over speed bumps and what not, so I wouldn't go crazy trying to make it lower. To answer your second question and adress the lower height=more slide, I would say trucks don't really matter, unless you ditch reverse kingpin for regular geometry trucks. Also, I don't think you'll have to worry too much about lower height, unintentional slides rarely happened to me when i was rollin on BZs.

I think Paris sit at the lowest angle of the 3, that might make a minute difference but I could be wrong.

also just run your trucks loose and with soft bushings(not too soft), that should help avoid sliding.

oh and what duro bigzigs are you getting?

I'm not sure if any of those trucks sit lower than the other, but Tracker Fastracks, another reverse geometry truck, is, I think, particularly low. Because the Dervish is drop-through, another option would be to add risers between the trucks and deck to lower the board. A lowered board, however, will have less traction in turns and will be more prone to sliding, but you can counter that with especially grippy wheels. Were you planning on using the soft pink Bigzigs?

cruiser12 already kind of mentioned this, but if you had your setup and didn't like how high it was you can buy rail risers to lower it. they go ontop of the board and beneath the baseplate, you can either make them from cutting some regular risers or psossibly buying some from a company like khiro. i have read that earthwing superballs are the gripiest wheels on the market. i put some on my speedcarver and i have to say they are deffenatley very very very grippy.

Thanks for the help!

Cheefa, I would go with lime BZ's if they are grippy enough. I might even go with pinks because many of the roads I am on are pretty rough.

You could try bear grizzlies...I'm pretty sure they're lower than all the trucks you posted.

Check out Holey Trucks, they sit a bunch lower than randals, lemme just dig up the review that compares them all....

http://www.holeytruck.com/downloads/...dalkillers.htm

There you go. Check out the side by side comparison of the trucks, you will notice holey is lower than Randal, Crail and Force trucks, I assume it's lower than a Paris as well. Loads of people use them for long distance for just this reason!

Grip wise, it's generally in the wheels.
Check out: Pink/Lime Bigzigs, Earthwing, Avilas and 3DM

Have fun, it'll ride pretty damned good regardless!

I probably will use 1/8 cut-to-size risers not only to lower it a bit, but to hopefully dampen some vibration on my rough roads.

The trucks have similar ride heights, but wheels will make more of a difference really.

You want mega grip? EW 76mm Superballs.

Good info! I would love to try the Holeys, but I understand the new Dervish cut-outs don't fit the Holeys anymore (and I'm not mechanically inclined enough to size it myself).

I'm not sure if anyone else has ever done this (I have never seen it), but you could put a standard style truck on it (Indy 215 or Tracker 184), which are quite a bit lower than reverse kingpin trucks. The derish's ride height is plenty low though, and doesn't cause any problems. I have paris trucks, and would suggest those, but the others are good too.

And you might want to give sliding a chance, because it makes riding in Florida a lot more fun. Without sliding, I probably would not have the motivation to even ride everyday for a little bit. An it isn't as hard as you would think. But you should probably go with lime Bigzigs.

IME, Holeys are a little too "progressive" for the Dervish. Chargers, Randals, or Paris (with softer bushings) work better.
