Default Another cleaning thread.

Try not to flame me for this, but my comp always screws up when i try to use the search function, and often, no results show up at all... for no reason.

But im goin to home depot tommorow to pick up some new new nuts and bolts, and i plan on getting a bolt so i can make a "$1.25 bearing cleaner". While im there, what kind of solvent would home depot have (and what section of the store would it be in) that will get dirt out of bearings pretty well, cuz my Alcohol rinses seem to leave some behind.

and is this the correct method?
Step 1:Rinse bearings in cleaner with solvent
2: Shake bearings off to get rid of solvent
3: Rinse bearings with Alcohol in cleaner
4: Let dry
5: Apply lube.

And last question, would it be okay to wash the sheilds of my bearings off in the sink before putting them in the cleaner, just so all the dirt that comes off doesnt go back in?

Thanks for the help.

Last time I cleaned my bearings I got 2 cans, soaked the bearings in one, then sloshed around in the other. Blew them out with compressed air, applied lube and I was done. A little messy but it was worth it.

Ok, so yesterday i got the stuff i needed and made the cleaner, but for some reason (bolt may be threded inporperly) the nuts i bought to hold the bearings on wont fit on the bolt. Any way to fix this, or anyother ways to hold the bearings in place?

You can just pile the bearings into the container. They don't need to be all aligned on a bolt. It is a little bit messier this way but it still achieves the same effect.

Any comments other than this?

Maby for my cheaper bearings, but id rather not submit my Biltins to that kind of abuse.

go to walmart, or ask your mom for her ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. about 25USD for a cheap one. throw whatever solvent you decide on in it. drop the bearings in for about 10 minutes, and just watch the crud come out. empty and refill solvent, repeat the cleaning to make sure. re-lube. skate...

it is the best, quickest, less hastle, less messy way to clean them jokers

Not to be rude, but if i had access to one of those, i wouldn't have made the $1.25 cleaner.

But now that you mention it, i may be working at my aunts dental surgeons office when i get my license (6 more months) and i know they have one... i may bee able to sneak a few bearings in with the bloodied dental instruments...

I did read your post, and i thought it was a good idea, but i decided to chose a different method to clean my bearings. By saying i wasted money, your syaing that everyone who cleans bearings a different way than you is wasting money.

I'm doing nothing wrong, just in a different way than you.

And after 5 years of wrestling (2 varsity years, hopefully two more) i've also learned to take advice from other people, and thats what i did when i decided to make the "$1.25" cleaner.

Abuse? Seriously?

Your bearings take more abuse from riding than sitting in a container full of paint thinner.
