New Radiused Speedvents w/Flapdisc
After reading a few threads on rounding the lips off of slalom wheels for a more predictable slide wheel I decided to tackle it today. Here were my steps:
Get your wheels, a hanger, bearings and some nuts.

Assemble

I am using a 60grit flap-style sanding disc, $4 or something at HomeDepot. The flap-style, in my mind, makes it easier to get a rounded shape, versus an angular shape. To do the OUTER lips of the wheels, I recommend flipping the wheels on the hanger. Being able to "pull" the wheel into shape versus "pushing" it gave me better results.

I have heard nothing but bad things about the human body and urethane dust. Please wear goggles and a face mask. It WILL make its way allover your clothes and skin, so plan on changing too.

Keep going at it until you start getting the shape you want, and to try to keep it consistent among all four wheels.

Give em a good wash - A ziplock bag + soapy water has been the easiest way so far I've found.

And now you have some beautiful radiused wheels!

On the deck:

Hope this helps out a few people. It's been done before, but the more pictures the better for all you D.I.Y'ers.

I just spent the past hour or so riding the shit out of these around my neighborhood, and so far I love them, no looking back. Slides feel more controlled then they did with the lip. I do notice I get quite a bit more drift-out when pumping hard, but thats expected when riding round edged wheels. They seem like they will be a lot of fun.
On another note, doing the wheels gave be an opportunity to see how my crap bear hangers are "banana'd".

That's what I was thinking, but the red/white stripe paint threw me off.

Good job on the wheels and the tutorial. I think this deserves a sticky.

Those look great! I love seismic wheels. A smooth rounded seismic wheel sounds like heaven.

There were already indents from truss head machine screws in the bottom, so I have just kept doing it that way. Thats fresh hardware in the picture, i have to do a bit of a saw down.

would a flapdisc be good for trimming lips like on Avilas? or would a different grinder be better?

You can get Avila's pretrimmed from 3dm if you don't have a set already, but that is if you are looking for lip trimming versus radiusing. The flap disc is nice because you can adjust the pressure applied to the wheel edge simply by pulling the wheel in closer. The sides of bench grinders work as well, Jordan at Toasted did that just the other day. If you are actually looking to trim the lips on Avila's, a lathe or drill press + some fine tooth blades would be your best bet if you already own a set.

Gumballs really are a rad shape for mods. You can radius the lips, shave out the inside of the outer lip, etc.
