Cult wheels, review
I just got back from Darnetal, french nationals race in Normandy
Riding the Deathray, from Cult wheels. 72mm, aparantly 80a,
Darren on a Pagan with pogos and 190mm hangers and Deathrays, me on a Carbon Revolution with Randals 42* 180 hangers and Deathrays. Luis Lins also had some Deathrays, mounted on his handmade board and kahalanis.
Last year I rode bigzigs at darnetal, there is a 180 hairpin that is very tricky and pretty much everyone drifts a bit in this corner. The Deathray railed it every time, no matter how hot I went in, I stuck the line and had a noticlably high exit speed.
They have a continuous convex curve on each side of the wheel, leading up to a small lip. There is a small bevel on the inside edge, the outer edge has a miniscule radius. The core takes a 10mm spacer. The over all feel of the wheel in your hand is solid, the lips are very well supported.
Ride wise, as I have already said, very grippy. They are as fast as anything else you will find on a race track, with a noticable acceleration boost out of corners. I didnt do much drifting or sliding at the race, as the grip of the Deathray meant I didnt have to. but have tested them out on my local spots, I think these wheels must be semi sentient, the way they slide and hook up is eery, its like they know what you want to do, and react perfectly to your intention. For a straight edge wheel thay have a wonderfull progressive slide, smooth and controllable. At low speeds they make a rad shreiking noise during the slide, at high speeds I didnt hear anything, but then I go a bit deaf at high speeds, somthing to do with the brain shutting down things it doesnt need in order to focus on other ####.
All in all the cult wheels seem at first glance to be just another slalom shape wheel, but once you get on them and start throwing them around, they are much much more than that. Im looking forward to riding these wheels alot more this year!

to AFTT
I wholeheartedly disagree. This is a great review and from the sounds of it, a comprehensive testing ground was the basis! Good work to the OP

Re: Cult wheels, review
Yes, I have worn a set of these down to 60mm. They maintain their grip very well. It takes a long time to break them in. The wear pattern is completely even and uniform. NO chunking. Of course any wheel that has coned and lost 12mm of its diameter is not going to behave the same as when it was fresch, but they do maintain the predictability needed for racing. I will be riding these at every race I go to. I have found my favourite wheel!

Re: Cult wheels, review
In case anyone worrying about bias, I'm not from Europe, I have no affiliation with Lush, Cult, ect, nor have I ever ridden any of their products until now.
They do lose a little grip as they get broken in. before riding the cults I was riding purple tangs. I can assure you, these little bastards grip better than po tangs. they're 2 mm's more than 4prez, similar shape though. the only noticable difference to me is in the convex on the inside side of the wheel. The slide is really smooth. It's a very easy breaking point, and a sinch to get them to hook back up. Even out of the box they were easier to slide around on than other comparable wheels. (the last statements were comparable to o-tangs and big zigs) They've been lasting me a while, so I like them very much Overall, I can indefinitely say I like them over Orangatangs.

Re: Cult wheels, review
i'm ordering some soon, super excited. i LOVE that they're 72mm. 70's get too small too fast for me, and 75''s are too big in the beginning for me, 72 is perfect! can anyone compare the durability to otangs and zigz?

Re: Cult wheels, review
I took a fresh set of Cults, Bigzigz and Blast waves to the St Aubin Epinay Freeride in France last weekend. I can tell you that Cult wheels are the best thing to happen to my skateboarding since I stepped on a board. Amazing grip (Better than bigz and blast waves) amazing slide (again better than the both of em). It's rediculous, I didn't think a wheel could do this.... PERFECT. For a grippy wheel, I won't be buying anything else.

Re: Cult wheels, review
I've been riding these wheels for about week, and I love them. I've swapped them onto every setup I ride... total infatuation. I feel like they are faster and "livelier" than any wheel I've tried (which are most of the ones on the market, I'd guess).
I have the 80a, so the slide doesn't feel super smooth to me as I usually ride 83a (not nearly as chattery as a bigzig, but not as kickass as every other attribute of these wheels are) but I'm sure the slide characteristics will just get better with more 'wear.

Re: Cult wheels, review
Screw those 80s! Get HARD! The thane is all squishy so it feels more cushioned than say a ZigZag.
CULT CULT CULT!
I love mine so much that I'm actually changing my entire DH setup so I can ride them more. These are TEH BESTARST!
