alrite guys bored at home so started watching some of the early downhill videos on youtube. I was just wondering what the guys in the vids were running back then, such as the guys racing in roll the dice:
just wondering the difference between then and now? i know it wasn't that long ago but tech seems to develop crazily quick.
Nice one

Remember, we're riding on thin pieces of wood. We're fat asses and there's tons of stress. If you ride these skateboards how you're supposed to, things are going to happen to them.
was speedboard races more popular back then? (when the "skid road crazy race" was filmed?) they have like a main street in a city closed off. it doesn't seem to me like that stuff happens anymore. sure we have maryhill and like lookout mtn races. but those are all off away from central cities.

not so much speedboarding, but street luge used to be televised heavily with the Gravity Games/ X-Games before they pulled the plug, also Redbull used to to do quite a bit of stuff with streetluge as well.
also, when it comes to oldschool setups, don't forget about the Indys!

When Red Bull pulled the plug on street luge (thanks to Big Air SF and a stupid photographer who got his ankle shattered by being on the course, then sued), everyone dropped it like a hot potato.
Biker Sherlock once said he mainly did street luge to get people to pay more attention to DH Skating... Funny that some people are trying to do the opposite now.
A lot of Roll The Dice is footage from Providence... That course is still one of my favorite, sketchtastic hills to ride.... half a mile and 50mph...
Red Bull still sponsors skating events. Downhill, Slalom, Street.
And riders.
Read my previous post if you're wondering why the events they sponsor aren't so hi-glam anymore. That's a BIG part of it. Also the Red Bull marketing scheme makes their employees hard to get ahold of (and I'm not talking about the Red Bull Wagon Chicks)
