Freeride/DH deck?
Hello,
I'm looking to buy a freeride/DH deck. I've read a lot of posts, and the Comet FSM seems to be the favorite, but it also appears to have a lot of problems with breaking/cracks, and I don't particularly like the way it looks.
Note that I'm not going to be doing serious 80+Km/h runs, but I'd like to be stable at 50-60.
Two boards that have caught my eye are the Landyachtz Switch and the Rayne Nemesis. I really like the drop on both, but the Nemmy looks like a smaller drop from the pictures I've seen.
What are your guys' opinions on these boards, and can you suggest anything else? Also, what kind of setup should I be looking at for these?
Thanks in advance.

Buy the FSM, its sexy regardless of your opinion and the cracks/breaking happens to every drop-through deck. There is no reason to assume it happens more often to a fsm.
If you get a fsm, you should buy indy/core hybrids from www.milehighskates.com and slippery wheels. I prefer orangatangs

Re: Freeride/DH deck?
i absolutely love my nemesis set up with bears and tangs and its amazing for DH and freeride, i have an FSM also but like the nemesis more and its pretty much indestructible

Re: Freeride/DH deck?
Either one of your two choices are good.

I have an FSM and my friend has the switch. I think it really depends on what you are more interested in doing. I like my FSM better for freeriding and sliding and the like. I like his Switch better for DH. The concave and drop just lock you in and it feels so stable. The Switch does slide well too though. I would say that you should base it on which you discipline you are leaning towards. I like the FSM better for Freeriding. I like the Switch better for DH. Although they are both good options no matter what you choose.

Re: Freeride/DH deck?
i like my evo for free riding and dh(obviously)
for some reason i really like how it locks me in when sliding around even though it is on the heavier side and the drop deck makes it low and easy to break free and control your slides really well.
preference i guess?
sorry i dont have any experience on the other decks

Re: Freeride/DH deck?
The FSM, Switch, and the Nemesis would all be very solid freeride decks.
The FSM isn't a DH board, per se, but it would still work just fine for the purpose.
I am trading for a Nemesis soon. I'm probably going to set it up with some Mangotangs when I get the chance.
Go sideways!
Boards breh:
Comet Voodoo XL (OG shape) - 50* Calibers
Carbon Surf Finish Clutch Jailbait - Crails or Paris
Incline Fro Pick - Ace 66
Comet Shred 35 - Indy 169s
Not set up:
Galac GTCPLDP
Loaded Dervish
$70 + shipping for each?? PM me!

I'm not doubting that it's possible, but I know if I was going to try to hit 60 at a hill I sure as shlt wouldn't bring the board that had a natural wedge and Hybrids. #### that. I don't know about the drop mounts on the FSM- I've got a Flushmount, and it's strong on that part of the board. But it seems that alot of FSM's rails are very brittle. Mine like alot of other people's has the first couple layers chipped off about 1/3" inward and 4" long. Irritating, but no further damage and it's solid.
I also don't like the rocker for tucking. The concave is great for a side-stance, but when I turn my back foot forward it feels lost.
I haven't ridden the others, but that's my thumbs down for the FSM according to what you're asking for.

Re: Freeride/DH deck?
Thanks for all the advice so far, guys. I'm definitely not going with the FSM, it leans too much towards freeride for me, and because it's drop-through, it will be more fragile than a top-mounted dropped deck.
I think I'm going to go with the Nemmy, the Switch has a bit too much of a drop for my liking. I'll have to find a shop around me that has some boards in so I can try them out.
What setup would you guys suggest? I'll probably go with Otang or S9 RF wheels, but I haven't a clue what to look at for trucks (I'm using Original S8's atm). One of you said Randals, but I've also been suggested to look at Bears.

Re: Freeride/DH deck?
im lookin for a freeride/dh board to, im leanin towards the landy drop speed
-
Re: Freeride/DH deck?
Uh, ok since you want a Freeriding and maneuverable board that can bomb hills and stay stable at 50kmph speeds, i suggest the Rayne Hellcat with a Bombsquad nose guard for more durability. But a drop down board would probably be better for you, so i recommend the Nemesis if thats what you really want. As for the trucks and wheels and such, i recommend Bear Grizzly 181mm trucks, and pOtangs 75mm 83a. 83a will let go when drifting easier than 80a, once they are broken in of course. And for bearings, i suggest any abec 7 bearings. System abec 7 seem to be cheap at TLS. The Grizzlys give you a good choice of riding style in one package; It has a 57 degree angle (more for carving) and if you flip the hangar it's 47 degrees (a fantastic angle for dh)

not an expert opinion here but
i finde that 50* randals are more carvy than bears. i prefer bears but this is only from trying out friends boards. im guessing 42* randals have a more similar feel to bears.

Re: Freeride/DH deck?
I'd go with the Drop Speed for sure.
My buddy has one and he's the fastest freak on that thing and he freerides like butter on it compared to any other board I've seen him on.
But I also think the Switch would be a good choice.
Landyachtz all the way!

Re: Freeride/DH deck?
you could get a lanyachtz dropspeed or a rayne hellcat. you can buy both of them off over sundaeskates.com with nose guards and there kinda lke the fsm.

Re: Freeride/DH deck?
Alright, so now I'm debating between a Clutch Deeznuts, Clutch Knuckleduster, and Rayne Nemmy.
The Deeznuts is wedged and dewedged, I'd imagine that would make the board more twitchy than something like the Toecutter or Nemesis, but I don't really know. Does the wedging help or hinder in long, straight roads? (That's all I have around here, got nothing with turns at all)
I've read the Randal FAQ, and looked at the chart, but I can't really make sense of it.
The Knuckleduster looks great if I don't want the wedging, and everyone raves about the concave on Clutch decks.
Also, what trucks would you guys suggest? I'm thinking Bear Grizzly's with the rear (or both) hangars flipped, or 42* Randals.
