Default Floridan Looking for the right speed setup...

I, for some reason, really want a drop deck in my quiver and am considering the Spud, Chinook, Switch or maybe the Evo from Landy; the Nemesis from Rayne sounds decent as well. Other suggstions would be happily recieved, I'm not saying its got to be one of the above.

I've ordered a Rayne Forge from my local shop, it's taking forever to get here... It'll be a fun cruiser that can bomb garages and slide about. Still, looking ahead I want to have a lowered board, something FAST and a bit different. Maybe go longer wheelbase than the 30.5" on the Forge.

Being that I'm in Florida I feel like the Evo would be a (heavy) fish out of water on most days, but aparently there's some good hills less than an hour away. I'm torn between getting a full blown speed setup, or a mixed discipline board. I feel like I would get into DH racing if I didn't live here. I love motorsports but can't afford to get into driving schools... skateboarding is like cheap speed for me.

Skill level wise I have wicked balance, like to pump and carve, and am now learning to slide (albeit on a massive bareback). I'm not too technical with freeriding or anything but I feel like I've really fallen in love with skating again (used to skate street when I was in MS and HS). I will eventually want to travel and seek out big hills. Just can't decide whether or not it'd be a waste to get a true speed board.

The Bustin strike is also a neat looking board for a drop through... If the WB was a bit longer I'd give it more thought, but eh it's also an interesting outside possibility. I like the fact that it has a small kick and some flex but I wonder how much different it is than my trusty old S9 Cosmic 2. I've never owned a board without a kicktail. I feel like Florida boards should have kicktails, but I could be wrong...

Really hoping to gain some guidance on this from the Fish. This forum has been a blast to join, until now I've only really been active on Paintball forums.

Lots of kids from Orlando use the Nemesis and from what I've heard it's pretty nice. I've only taken one down a garage a few times but it seems like a great board. There are some pretty nice hills in Clermont, but I think you'd want a speedboard for them (then again, I've seen a guy bomb some of them on a Vanguard).

Right on man, thanks for the shout. Hhmm if thats the case I'd love to get a chance to demo someone's nem in town... What board do you typically rock for speed sessions?

Yeah Clermont is where I heard there's good hills. Ocala has a few too I bet, I know of one thats gnarly as all get out. The name of the street/hill is "Thrill Hill" and yeah it's steep. It feels steep in a car. Someday...

It may be that I get a Nemesis, though I do wish it was dropped a tiny bit more. Pushing my taller S9 Dawn patrol lately has caused my left knee (goofy) to get really sore from time to time. So I'm thinking a good dropped deck would be better for me to have when I want to haul the mail. Can't wait to get my Forge... should be here pretty soon. Hopefully they ordered some more Rayne boards with mine and then I can check out the Nem or maybe even the Hustler. Anyone else got some advice for muah?

I live in Tampa. If you intend on having just one board, I'd go with a mixed discipline board. Just not enough hills here to justify a 100% DH setup.

I just purchased a Clutch Deeznutz and use it for everything but pumping. Search the forum and you'll find them.

Awesome board! Top notch construction. I'm so happy with it that I'm ordering a custom.

    Good luck.

I've got a few boards but none of them are designed for speed. My quiver:

-Powell mini logo with GK's and 56mm cruisers
-S9 Cosmic Rider 2 (currently on some Indy 215's, fun setup)
-S9 Dawn Patrol (34" long, short wheel base, sidewinders and grippy wheels= turning machine)
-Huge Bareback (the one with wheel cutouts, new bushings go a long way, fun slidey beast)
---(coming soon) Rayne Forge with bear 852's and potangs on reds

I've got some 80a in heats that I figured I'd put on something faster than the Forge get some Biltins and fly... thats why I want something lower. One hill board sounds like it'd round things out nicely. How "hill" do I go?

    Edit: Floridian

All the boards you listed are great. Get a die with however many sides, assign one to each, roll it, and boom.

But on personal opinion, I've heard more good things about the Rayne Nemesis than any other board. Albeit, the evo or similar would be an obvious increase in performance for DH at the top end of the sport; I'm just thinking of our wonderful mid-florida landscape. There's sweet hills in Brooksville, Clermont, and Ocala, but garages and flat ground everywhere else. Because of that, I'd really look into the nemesis.

That board could DH anywhere in Florida, provided you personally have the skill to hit the hill.

Goodman, sounds like the ticket... if my local shop ordered one with my forge then it might just leave with me as well... or not. Wish I could feel the weight of one.

Wish I had many to blow on a new setup. I'd like to get a DH setup with the new paris trucks and hit up some gnarly hills (for FL) over in G-ville.

Yeah I probably can't afford to go buck wild on new setup(s), but eh I'm bored with things and ready for some healthy doses of legal (well sort of legal) speed. G-Ville and Ocala def sound like good places to ride. A buddy of mine goes to UF which will help...

I can't say I've been to all the spots in Ocala and G-ville, especially cause I just visit for weekends at a time. But, after the places I made it to, I still like Brooksville the best. Has florida's 3rd largest hill. Not to say Ocala and Gainesville aren't freaking sweet though.

From what I hear though, Clermont is insane, and the place for speed in the FL.

    i have a spud
its not entirely a dh board so if your afraid to get a full on dh board its a good choice. has no flex from my expeirence and concave is super sick. i would only get that if you are under 5' 3" (like meee). i dont think you need an evo, it has too many ply's unless your very heavy or going 50 mph. depending on your size i suggest a switch or dually. also a nemmy is awesome. i don't like the cave quite as much but its still a sick board. if you are sure your getting a drop deck always get it a little bigger than you think you need. i regret not just getting a switch cuz im already starting to feel its too small. Hope this helps.

Hmm I'm 5'6" and 130lbs so if a Spud feels too small to you I'll probably hold off on that. The bustin strike looks sweet for a shorter fun board thats low to the ground. The Nem sounds like my board. If it has a little bit of give that's probably better. I don't really think 11plys of maple is what I need.

Got some 75mm inheats for it seems like everyone is sold out of biltins except daddies. This should be a fun setup. Lol since I've already got the wheels I'm gonna order some slide a's with the complete, 62mm slide wheels on a nem would be rediculously sketchy.
