Looking for a new topmount
I've been riding a Voodoo XL for a few months, and I really like the shape and the rocker, but the one thing that bothers me about the deck is that the width cuts in at the back too soon, which always makes me wish I had more foot room. So I've been thinking about getting a new board that makes better use of foot space.
Basically what I'm looking for is a topmount under 40" and 10"+ wide that doesn't taper off much until the very end. Also, a 30-32" WB give or take a little. I want a board with good concave, although the type doesn't matter too much because I can adapt to other concave, and I'm looking for a traditional looking shape (like the Voodoo) so I would rather avoid cutouts/the EW MM type shape. And rocker would be cool but isn't necessary.
I've been thinking:
Sayshun Speed - don't know much about it, I like the shape, the WB's seem a little long
Zealous - don't know the dimensions, can I change the shape a little bit?
Madrid Mercado - I like the shape, it seems like what I'm looking for, but it looks like it tapers off a lot in the back - it would be better with back like the David Price, or if it just stayed wide in the back
Roggs Widowmaker - I haven't heard anything about it in a while, are they still being made?
Custom maker? - Are there any boardmakers out there that could make about what I want for a decent price?
Any other info or suggestions would be great. I'm planning on using Trackers and 65 or 66mm wheels. And I'm 6' size 11.5 shoe btw.

Re: Looking for a new topmount
I agree on the voodoo, and that's why I no longer ride mine.
I make sure to ride boards with plenty of room in back(stepped off the ends of too many)
Clutch will be making a topmount in the near future. It definitely will not be as restrictive as the voodoo.

I personally like the taper, but check out the new Madrid boards. They're BIG.
you didn't let me finish my post.
flip the sucker upside down and you will have the most top-mounted board, ever.
EDIT:
you've got competition should you go this route.... dang.

Re: Looking for a new topmount
39 inch speedwing, deep concave ,nice and wide, adjustable wheel bases.
board is wide like a bomb hills, concave is deeper then the race, drilled for multiple wheelbases .
what more could you want.

looks deeper to me,i have both .
will take a pic of both in about a hr and let you decide.
looks like the sides come up sharper on the race but the depth seems a litter deeper to me on the wing, maybe because it is almost 1/2 inch wider
did a test just now with the tape measure, cant find a ruler but i will look for one.
its really close to tell on the concave.
the depth on the wing is .5905 of a inch or 1.5 cm
cant find exact measurement for concave depth on the race ,do you happen to know exacts?
i wish my camera skills were better ,the shots i take will suck.
be back to you in a hr with pics

Re: Looking for a new topmount
i tried, just have nothing in the apartment with a totally straight edges.
the wife says the concave is deeper also
trying to take into account the the tape measure has the metal end which is probably a 64th of inch ,but then the sec 9 is gripped .
this weekend i am gonna have both set up and will do a full comparison next week.
i think jar has both and might be able to give exacts.
the back of the wing is definitely wider and has a deeper concave, the 42 wing is more of a pin-tail.
i know dozer has both, maybe if we ask nicely he can do pic with a better measurements.

Re: Looking for a new topmount

you might check out the LBL Manatee. Doesn't have cutouts, has wheel wells instead, does not taper off a lot, only an inch difference between the front and the back, the concave is awesome, 5/8" radial concave, and its 39" x 10" with a 30" wheelbase.

Re: Looking for a new topmount
Some of the best boards I have ever ridden have been made by a custom builder in australia. His signature board is similar to the nemisis though isnt symmetrical. I have bought many boards of him. You can see this boards if you google search Glyde Skateboards.

Re: Looking for a new topmount
Fullbag Topmount anyone?
40.5 inches, 10 wide, 32 wheelbase. Not to mention Fullbag's awesome concave. Wheel cutouts. It's the topmount for me.

Re: Looking for a new topmount
Another thought is contacting Comet to get a custom Voodoo. I know there's a picture on here somewhere of a board that was made with a Voodoo front but the wider taper of a Chalice in the rear. If you're already 90% happy with the deck, just go to the source and see what they can do for you.

Re: Looking for a new topmount
Just a thought, as I can't say much about a board that I've never even stepped on, but... How about the Rogers Bros DH 40 or DH36. They look really wide out back. And my theory is that, being aluminium, you could probably bend the concave into whatever shape you liked. Just a theory though.
