The code appears to only apply to LA County so it may be worthwhile to check a map and see where you were. If you really want to fight it, you might check out 15.08.185 as it defines a skateboard as: " . . . any board or any other object or device which has wheels attached to it by any means whatsoever and which is propelled by pushing, pulling, or gravitational forces, and to which there is not affixed any device or mechanism for steering."

That last little bit could be key. To my understanding, skateboard trucks both lean and steer, thus you do have a mechanism for steering. Just a thought.

Makes me mad like they took the gear from me my DH shreddin' brothers. Like Bombsquad_Manny says the ticket said you can go earlier if you are adults. You also stated that the officer made you guys load and unload your gear WTF. Why didn't they do it? I know lots of us may not have a lot of disposable income but an attorney might be helpful.
A similar incident happened to me in Colorado. I was pulled over by a state trooper while bombin' a run near Durango. He told me it's illegal to ride a skateboard on asphalt anywhere in the state. I said I was unaware of that and told him that I was on vacation. I Showed my drivers license to him . He let me go and I walked up hill to a side road wich I promptly bombed . Let us know how you fare from this incident.

I'm all about being polite to police when they ask you not to skate somewhere... at least at that moment. But taking away your boards AND giving you a ticket?!? **** them! I woulda flipped out and got arrested I'm sure.

what gives them the right? It's a power trip and they need to get off their high hoarse and do something about all the other crimes going on in their cities... not a couple people skateing down a hill.

I would write a letter to your governer. You know arnold is cooler then that! Hell I think to help you out we should all write a letter to arnold.

That really sucks, hope you guys get your stuff back sooner. Luckily for me, I've never had a real confrontation with the 5-0. There was this one cop in North Carolina who was gonna write us tickets for skating in town, but the broken english "I'm not from around these parts" bit got us off the hook. I think if my town wasn't so laxed about it, I would go to them townhall meetings you see on the news and get a group of people together to change some legislation.

Like 2 weeks ago I got threatened on the same confiscation bullshit so I went to the police station the next day asked for a copy of the ordinance and got to talking to a cop that was pretty cool about it, said for one the local cops wouldn't take my board if the caught me in the street as long as I was cool with them. Then he pulled me aside and told me quietly that he never took a skateboard because he said he believed it violates your Constitutional rights. He said that board is your personal property, and he can't take it unless it was evidence in a crime that was committed, or if he had a warrant. Your story just sounds really shaky to me. I would talk to a Lawyer bro, see if you can get something together to go to the station and get you personal property back. Just make sure you have something professionally put together, and to the best of my knowledge, just because it was passed as a state law/local ordinance does not mean it's constitutional to your rights as a citizen.
