im gunna get some venom downhill bushings for my evo w/ randals. i was wondering if im gunna have to trim one of the bushings for each truck ( like khiro double barrels ) to fit randals without messing with the degree of my truck. ive fine if it changes the degree like 2-3* cuz i have 42* plates but over all

Heh, you don't have to trim khiros, you have to SHIM them with extra washers cos they're too small.

I currently have double venom barrels on my R-2's, they fit just fine but you need a longer kingpin than the stock one.

Seriously dude? Never been in a hardware store? Beyond the fact that you could buy longer kingpins, I'm stumped as to how bushings are going to change your truck angle.

bushings will change your truck angle if you put a larger bushing in than designed for, causing the hangar to be higher, which in turn gives you an overall higher angle than previously

Hey shut up, you're bashing him for actually asking a legit question. It's not idiotic, you're idiotic, it's true that if the bottom bushing is too tall, it will change the angle of your truck, this is exactly what he asked just worded differently

"Are venoms tall enough to change the angle of my trucks? or do I have to trim them"

Oh, no, you're right, nothing has any effect on the angle of the baseplate, let me clarify what I said.

The hangar and the baseplate are two separate objects, just because the baseplate is a certain angle, that doesn't mean the hangar automatically pivots along that angle.

Look at this, really examine it


First off, the pivot axis is the axis along which the pivot nub pivots, along with the whole rest of the hangar. And pivot cups are not concrete, they are soft, correct? So it is very possible for the pivot, and thus the whole hangar to not come out of the pivot cup completely straight.

The truck only turns at the angle of the baseplate if the pivot axis is perpendicular to the kingpin, which only happens if the pivot axis is sticking straight out of the pivot cup, or more abstractly, parallel with the pivot cup.

Now, take these two bits of information, and realize that if the bottom bushing is a bit too big than the truck was designed for, if will push the whole hangar up, and thus, make the pivot come out of the pivot cup incorrectly (not straight), which changes the angle of the pivot axis. And the pivot axis is ultimately the angle which the truck turns. The baseplate angle is still the same, but the truck as a whole turns on a different axis if the hangar doesn't come straight out of the pivot cup.

The pivot axis angle is also known as CASTER ANGLE. A truck turns on it's caster angle and not it's baseplate angle. Although most trucks that are set up correctly have an identical caster and baseplate angle, it's very very possible that they are not the same.

The OP asked if venoms are tall enough to effect the caster angle of randals, which is a very valid question if he doesn't own venoms.

Well said, and furthermore you can decrease the caster angle by flipping your bushings around (provided they are different sizes).

Edit: I´m not saying that flipping them is a great idea however!
