Heelside predrift, grab or not to grab?
Do you predrift grabbing rail or not for heelside turns? I learned without grabbing rail but want to learn the other way also. I've seen vids of guys predrifting both ways like Patrick Switzer
are there any advantages doing it either way? does it depend of the turn? On the tuna vid it looks like he doesnt grab for the sharp stuff and for the baldy one he grabs where the turns are wider or is it all just preference. just curious thx

i think it depends on what kind of board your riding, feels wacky to me on a drop thru but better on a topmount maybe has to do with ride height

For me it depends on the pavement, but in general I like not grabbing rail.

I grab rail if I'm diving in really hard and keeping lots of weight over the board. If I'm just laying one down on whatever corner and not taking a line then I don't grab.

I prefer grabbing, because it helps me keep my weight over the board, but still allows me to kick out my back foot like mad. I feel like if I kicked out that hard without grabbing rail, I'd slide out.

Re: Heelside predrift, grab or not to grab?
Grabbing definitely provides more stability when i'm throwin down pendys, but when just drifting I prefer to grab as little as possible. With a tight grip on my board hooking back up is a bit sketchier.. more weight on my board wants to highside me. IMO the more weight on the board when drifting makes the hook ups less smooth

Re: Heelside predrift, grab or not to grab?
Grabbing limits how far away you can kick your board, thus making for a grippier pre-drift that scrubs speed faster than if you didn't grab rail.
So you will lose less speed if you don't grab rail, so it depends on the corner.

Re: Heelside predrift, grab or not to grab?
it depends on when im doing the predrift. if im doing it before i even initiate the turn then usually i dont grab rail, if im initiating the turn then predrifting then i grab rail. it kinda depends on how muc speed i want to lose and when i want to lose it.

Yeah I think over time I grew out of grabbing rail. Now that I am able to do it with no-hands it does have benefits IMO, its easier to control how much speed you scrub off IMO

depending on the situation....
if im predrifting a heelside corner at like 50mph i'll grab the rail as a safety precaution, or if im entering a corner where there's a car entering or mid way through...
other than that i dont grab rail
