Slide Help??
I figured this would be better here then sliding section
Ive recently starting really bombing hills, and now im getting to speeds where i wouldnt even consider taking my foot off to footbreak, and currently when im done a hill i just have to carve a lot and ride it out until im slow enough to footbreak.
What is the best way to learn any slide that will slow me down enough to stop without riding out for a freaking kilometer (not really but yea a long time)
My wheels are sector 9 9-balls 78a.

Re: Slide Help??
Personally I wonder, why not ride it out if you have the option? All the more stoke.

Re: Slide Help??
yea thats not a big deal
i forgot to mention some stuffs
but like what if im riding a hill and i need to stop NOW
then im totally screwed cuz im too fast to footbrake and cant slide
so i need to know a way to slide to stop, for safety really.
And for people trying to help dont just say "learn this slide" please give as detailed instructions as you possibly can to this noob!

Re: Slide Help??
Alright. First off. If you do not have slide gloves get some. Then getting some different wheels would help too. Personally I love 83a Gravity Drifters. You probably use the S9's but it would help with the Drifters. Then when you get all of that.
Get low on your board. Grab the board just behind your back foot with your left foot. Carve hard and put your right hand down at the same time. You will slide then hook back up doing a 180. It slows you down a lot and is one of the first slides I learned.

Edit: What board are you using?

I am not sure on a pipeline. I think that you should practice on a smaller hill.

You can also try to learn a two hand toe slide. it can be a shutdown or a pendy.

1) No you don't need new wheels, people just don't seem to understand it's perfectly fine to start sliding on soft wheels. People go harder as a crutch to actually learning how to slide in general instead of just on harder wheels.
2) 180? 180 slides don't stop you. You lose some speed, but end up in switch which makes it even sketchier for newer riders who #### their pants going down any incline in switch. Learn how to slide to a stop or pendy if you're looking to slide, but still keep riding with some speed.

1. I know. I learned on 75a wheels but it is easier and less frustrating.
2. I am an idiot and did not think about that.

Re: Slide Help??
Yea you don't need new wheels,I learned in a brand new set of Bzigs lime,I found easier to slide in seven O's (78a). just get some speed, put your hands down and slide, with your rear hand reach the ground just passing the center of your body(yes reach forward) then your other hand on the ground,to begin your slide you want your body weight on the front foot but once your board gets sideways you want to even your weight on your two feet so your board stays sideways and stops.
I drive every day by and she tries to seduce me,I can hear her sayin' "Draw pretty thane lines on my new black dress,go crazy on me, go sidewayz"
Need help to learn to slide? don't make another thread go here

Re: Slide Help??
Searching would be a good start.
I suggest making slide gloves and practicing. It's not hard to shut down.
Here is an easy slide to bleed speed.
Throw your hands down and get dedicated.
If you lay into to and fight the boards veering and keep it perpendicular to your direction, you will shut down a ride quickly.

Cann0n thank you for the video, I'll be trying those 2hand toe-side slides some time fairly soon here

Re: Slide Help??
Hey BigMac - I'm with you on not wanting to ride it out. I followed the same advice you took for working my way up this little 25mph+ hill near the house and also have to ride it out until get to a confident speed for foot braking. I just want to bomb, stop, walk back up and do it again. Not cruise into the next county, push back against the wind and then walk up and come back down. Good luck on your slides. You've been given some good advice. (which I need to take myself)
... almost sprained my finger due to speed wobble (Fusrodah)
... wheels need to be round to roll well. (aloysius)

Coooool man. I'd say a good place to start for if you're getting used to speed would be right after the switchback.

Try pushing out with your feet/legs, it should feel pretty natural if you do.

Re: Slide Help??
Can i say it's perfectly easy foot breaking at 30mph, even 35mph. And as soon as you get out of tuck and airbreak. You can footbreak like a pro? And then stop super easy.
The only slide i do is drop leg for corners. On 79a 85mm speedy vents.
Deck: Fullbag Elise
Trucks: Blue & Purple Munkae trucks
Bushings: Yellow & Red elims.
Wheels: 75mm Lime BigZigs
