Psh, break out the hammer! Mine fit

Like Lb1 said... as you turn and put pressure on the kingpin, it will move back and forth ever so slightly. If you run the kingpin un-flipped, the SHARP THREADS will dig into the kingpin hole of the baseplate and make the hole wider and wider. That = slop, and slop = bad. Flip 'em!

(You need to remove the kingpin and the hanger completely every time you want to change the bottom bushing if you do flip 'em on Kahalani's, which isn't bad at all if you figure out your bushing setup beforehand.)

A Steel kingpin is like a hot knife cutting in the butter that is your alumminum baseplate.

I don't care which way you run them, but for the record, in the Madrid pic above, your kingpin most certainly is not "flipped". Flipping a kingpin comes from Randals and it means to turn the kingpin around the opposite of the way Randal delivers the truck. When "flipped" it means the unthreaded (strongest) part of the kingpin will be inside the baseplate metal and the nut you put on will be on the top of the truck (top means "top" when you have the board sitting upside down to work on it, or in other words, closest to the ground when you are riding).

I took a bad fall on 5/24/2008 at Mt. Baker, went off the road and fell down the side of the mountain. I went into a coma, badly broke my pelvis, lacerated my liver and almost died on the mountain AND later in the hospital. The rehabilitation therapists had to teach me how to do everything again...everything.

I survived that mountain because of my helmet...WEAR ONE and send your family to the hospital, not the morgue.

I noticed alot of people with smokies don't have their kingpins flipped and when I went to flip the kingpin, the head of the bolt gets lodged before it makes it all the way in to the back of the baseplate leaving me with alot less threading. It isn't the thread I'm worried about, but the possibility of the head of the bolt doing damage. I'm assuming this concern is unfounded, but I'd just like to make sure...
