Re: your dh setup
whatever. to me it makes more sense to have the grip at the back to compensate. the front is always gonna get more grip than the back through a corner and having harder wheels back there is only going to facilitate that fact.
either way, i'm just going to ride my board and enjoy it.

Re: your dh setup
Ok, DH is opposite of slalom. You want the grip in the front, just like chappy rode and anyone who made a self respecting six wheeler, they had 2 trucks in front, and one in the back.
You may not realize it, but everytime your back end "kicks out from loss of grip" your front does too. You need to have the soft in the front and the hard in the back or the board will go whatever way it wants when you drift out. OR since you have "more grip in the back" now when you round a corner, the back will be gripping and the front will drift, then your really fcked.
Plus, try throwing pendys and predrifts, you are going to have such a hard time controlling any of that with split duros.
Soft front, hard back = DH
Hard front, soft back = Slalom
Moral of the story, run the same wheels front and back, same duro, and quit being a pansy.
That avenger is badass.

+1 This is true. In DH, the need for a more controlled drift is more important than perhaps the tiny bit of speed boost you would get from a harder duro in the front. Whereas in slalom, you DONT want to your back end to slide out. So why not put harder wheels in the front for the extra boost of speed?

Re: your dh setup
guroo, Mischo's tactic for vernon was to never lose traction, and guess what, he never did. Which is a lot like slalom. In slalom, ideally you will never lose slalom, so you can sacrifice a more-controllable drift for a speed boost, where as in most DH situations, you will lose traction no matter what, which is when you would favor a more controllable drift.
If you're never going to lose traction = hard front, soft back/two front, four back
If you're going to lose traction = soft front, hard back/four front, two back

Re: your dh setup
Well, Ive ridden split duros, and I did not like the way softer in front drifted at all. All this talk about "more controlled drifting" for DH with softer in front harder in back doesnt make a lot of sense to me. Harder in front softer in back slid a lot smoother around corners IME, also gripped better.
Never again am I going to run split duros for DH though.

Re: your dh setup
Maybe controlled isn't the right word. How about efficient?
When you drift, you want to make your turn radius as small as whatever line you're taking. So everytime you drift, your back wheels will need to drift farther than the front. With soft in front, you're making it easier to kick your back end around the outside of your line, and take a tighter line with the front wheels, thus allowing you to take an overall less drifty, more efficient, tighter line.

Re: your dh setup
I believe mischo actually ran vernon on centrax wheels not momos. The new wet dry centrax is what chaput said he was riding on.

Re: your dh setup
randal 180s, the ranal dhs would have absolutely no turn in the back with the low angle. Get standard 180s and you can play with the baseplate angles more too. You could put a 35* plate in the front and a 50* in the rear and it'll give you a 50* front and a 35* back or whatever other combo you want to try
