Honestly, they're not so great....... from a normal silverfish point of view.
The BlackOps thane is ridiculously fast, but the Avilas have really, really funky drift/slide characteristics. Damn thing doesn't want to drift at all going toeside, and drifts really easy going heelside. Also, the hookup coming out is like getting hit by a freight train. Not to mention the rapid damage to the lips on the forward-facing wheels when getting sideways heelside, forcing me to rotate the wheels to keep wear even.
I called Seismic and got the owner (who's really awesome), and after a 20 minute long phone conversation, he suggested I get 83a 77mm Speedvents (after explaining my riding style and weight, etc) , which was actually my second choice, but I went for the Avilas when I ordered the board, since my riding style didn't really include drifting/sliding. Having progressed considerably (and understanding the importance of drifting/sliding in DH runs), I realize now that the Avilas probably were not the best choice.
Dunno if I'm gonna trim them and make them BlackOps 77a BigZigs, or put them on a future GS board. I'm saving up enough extra cash to get the SpeedVents right now.
...............
When not getting sideways though, the Avilas stick like flypaper to the road. Ultimately though, they're either getting trimmed or retired. Kinda thinking about getting a set of the 81a and trimming them.... hmmmmmmm.....

Re: your dh setup
I never understood why people complain about Avilas having crappy slides...They're not meant to be drifters. There are infinite other wheels to fill that category.

Exactly my point. I wasn't a drifter until I got my Evo. Then I was like ohsnap, I need wheels that are drift-compatible.

you could always radius the edges of them. might help with the sliding and all... just a suggestion and it might be easier than trimming

93 venoms all around in smokies? Don't take this the wrong way, but I can't begin to imagine how awful that feels. Unless you weigh 250.
