why every topmount doesnt come with them i dont understand. i wouldnt buy a board without them.
Some companies have encountered delam issues because they route the wells right flush with a ply. In all honesty, there's no harm in using 1/8-1/4" riser.

Height is fine. i don't measure. No wheelbite with 1/8" riser.

Re: your dh setup
I'm running big zigs on my mystery model at the moment, until tomorrow when my orange cults come in
I use a 1/2'' riser with randal 42's... yea thats right 1/2''... and 42's with a 1/2'' riser is the same height as a 50 with NO riser.
I have a bunch of skateboards
Isn't this what you're supposed to put in a signature?

Re: your dh setup
Why do people insist that cast trucks with 75mm wheels on a topmount is so tall? Or that they get wheelbite? These are the same setups that people have been running for 10 years, nothing has changed.

I think its because more and more wannabe downhillers are coming into the scene and they get topmount speedboards and Randals and carve them around. You obviously will get wheelbite on topmounts with 75mm wheels if you are running it stupid loose and carving. Nobody that downhills on them gets wheelbite. People don't realize how little your trucks need to sweep for you to turn when you're going fast. Crank that ####. It won't bite.

That is absolutely true not that I am even close to wheel bite on my present board but it is interesting to see how little the trucks move when I'm taking corners....conversely when I loosen up and go carving I still haven't had problems on any of my top mounts (wish I had a $2 at the moment)

You and I were both "wannabe downhillers" at some point. Fact is that I do get wheelbite sometimes on my topmount, and it's a rational worry for many.
I like to run my downhill setups loose, and keep them versatile. Now that freeriding has become more and more popular, you're seeing a mix of disciplines that lend themselves to not just cranked trucks and little lean. Sure, when you're going 25+ through turns, the lean required for wheelbite would send you either flying off the board or into the pavement. However, (and especially with lower than 50* trucks) wheelbite becomes an issue when you take into account the varied riding styles that you'll see on "DH" boards. Also, not everyone has the liberty of having many setups. Wheelbite worries are especially relevant when you can only have one or two boards. Even more so when that board is a downhill topmount.
It's a bit hasty to say that "nobody who downhills" gets wheelbite on 75mm. That's not only a bit pompous, but it's also straight incorrect.
Just something to consider.
This is Silverfish, take it with a grain of salt. It's fun to come back to at the end of the day, but nothing beats the real deal. Make your own judgments and form your own opinions. Remember whose lens you're looking through!

I'm kinda hoping Rus comes to Whelabrator with one of his ulgy protos (of the $2) that show people how his boards perform without distracting them with how pretty a board he makes....
