    Default Dump Rd. video Dec'06

This is a helmetcam run with David Rogers at the infamous Dump Rd. I was running the 85mm Seismic(79a)wheels and I still felt slow against David, but that is the norm. These wheels seem fine but I am partial to a softer wheel in a smaller diameter. We had a good session and I'm sorry that Judith and Carlos were not featured in this video.

John was it Nick that was running those new Landy Hawgs that day?

You should try the softer 85mm speedvents btw...very nice.

John, there's a segment of that where you're running way behind Dave and someone, and then you really move up and close the gap... how'd you pick up so much speed on them? You using that Estes booster pack?

What camera setup do you guys use? How do you attach whatever you use to your helmet?

That was actually Dave w/ the helmet cam Erik.

It was a great day riding. I don't think I've ever learned so much in one day, and I think I can say for all of us "young bucks", that we've never had so much fun drafting!

Thanks, Riley. I went back and read that again and now think it's pretty obvious, particularly with the reference to the wheels--which I did notice. But I still want to know WTF did (Dave )do to accellerate like that? It doesn't look like the guys ahead are braking , or are they?

The Adventure II helmet cam are on sale at PricePoint, btw. You guys are making me want one with these killer POV vids.

seems to me like he just used to slower people's draft to slingshot himself past em.

sort of like a powerup....and why it's not good to start first on that road unless youre 50x faster than everyone

-Speeds at the dump are in the 50-60mph range. I clocked a 50.2 mph solo run years ago thru a 100ft. trap. I have also recorded 60 mph w/ GPS on a tail wind day.
-My camera setup is custom and pretty bulky( robocam by current standards), but the picture quality is better than most helmetcams that I've seen. I made it back in 2000, originally for luge. I have a Watec 1/3'' CCD camera mounted in an AL canister and that is held to the helmet w/ velcro and tape. It has a wide angle lens to capture tight action and that adds to the speed effect. I record on a Sony TRV-11 camcorder that is strapped to the chest with a custom belt.
-David is really fast and his tuck is really nice. He can outrun most everyone if you don't use the draft. Even if you try to draft him, he can run away from you very easily. If he drafts you then he will normally come blowin' by.
-I went back and checked the edit and I think I can get it right next time. Thanks again Erik.

If you are ever in the Southern California area make sure you have a free Sunday and you can ride no problem. We have done it since 1999 w/o hassle. Only Sundays because the road goes to the dump and the dump is closed then. We still use radios or phones and the vehicle driver is responsible for keeping cars from coming up the road when we are doing a run. Check out http:// www.auldovertheroad.com for history of that road. Look under "Brothers in the Badlands".

Here is another clip from my past. I was glad to have the double thickness ass section in my leathers on this one! This is how not to pass!
