rayne hellcat dh/carve setup
im looking into getting the rayne hellcat. It is good for downhill and carving right? I want the board to be pretty safe for carving going around 50 mph. I'm not to sure what setup to get for it so if you guys have any advice on wheels and trucks that would be nice...thanks

Re: rayne hellcat dh/carve setup
first of all, 50 is faster than most people think! you will NEED leathers and a full face helmet, no exceptions! as far as the hellcat, i personally don't like them, there's a lot of better speeeboard options out there. how tall/heavy are you, and how much experience do u have?
EDIT: use the search function too, there's a lot of info on this already.

Re: rayne hellcat dh/carve setup
im 6'1 and am 160-170 lbs. I dont know if i will get up to 50 but 42 was my fastest. I just want a board that can handle 50 so i know im safe for sure at 40. I also saw that the hellcat is somewhat decent for sliding (im not into trick sliding, just maybe slide for fun or slide to stop) so that made me more attracted to it. I really like the shape of the board, and i also like the shape of the landy DH and evo. as far as experience, i have been bombing hills on and off for about 2 years and im trying to get into sliding a little bit but like i said earlier, its only to slow down and stop really so i dont want a full on sliding board, just a board mainly for downhill and carving that is slidable if that makes sense

Grab a Demonseed. I use mine for exactly what you're talking about and it's great. You're a tall guy, and could do with the extra room.

i think that the dh race landy board was a good slider but i also think its got 2 much of a cradle like feel for me

Re: rayne hellcat dh/carve setup
a topmount will carve and slide best, and there's nothing wrong with going 50 on one.

Re: rayne hellcat dh/carve setup
A topmount will definitely not slide best...
I would pass on the Subsonics. I've ridden the Swift 42 and Reflex 42 and they just feel weird to me when you are going fast.

Re: rayne hellcat dh/carve setup
I love my subsonic. I have the reflex 46. I use it strictly to bomb garages, very stable, wide, and lots of room to move, at least for me.

Re: rayne hellcat dh/carve setup
when im going 50 carving is the last thing on my mind...my board is just locked in a straight line. I can turn, but not the quick motion that carving requires...thast just nuts

Re: rayne hellcat dh/carve setup
whats the difference between the evo and the dh landy boards? which is better for down hill and which is best for carving? also sliding isnt the main thing, i just want to be able to slide at least. which would be better for carving/downhill the rayne hellcat or demonspeed?
thanks for the advice you guys

Re: rayne hellcat dh/carve setup
honestly, you can't go wrong with an evo. it's a great all around dh deck. it's supposedly an 'evolution' of the dh. so there ya go.

Re: rayne hellcat dh/carve setup
get a john caften, or ian comishin from kebbek. i use my comishin for cruising and getting around and hard speed carving, but its also my serious speedboard that i can comfortably slide at anytime and hit high speeds with loose trucks.

The only difference between decks that MATTERS is how you feel about skateboarding on them.
Get over all the numbers, get over who's fastest on them and ride WHAT FEELS GOOD.
In my opinion, for a guy your size, you'll want a larger deck than a Hellcat, and I really, really enjoy my Demonseed. It's a very addictive board to ride, it can be used anywhere and has lots of room to spare. It leaves the feel up to YOU. You can throw some 35 degree trucks and bomb to the moon and back, or throw some R-IIs and standup slide that mofo where you go. I really like mine.

Re: rayne hellcat dh/carve setup
I've never ridden a dropped board or drop-through board that i really liked carving on they either have a "cradle" feeling, or just feel dead and unresponsive in the case of a drop-through.. I think a regular, stiff pintail will give you the best all-around ride.
