    Question Gps Elevation Profiles

After a bit of a search over the fish i have found lots of info but not quite what i'm after.

I want to be able to make an elevation profile and speed over time graphs but is this done by the GPS unit or by software after downloading the data from the GPS?

I have been to my local shops only to be told that i would need to get a $800 mapping, top of the line unit to do what i want but i have seen people using much smaller and less expensive units here.

Could some one post some graphs and hill profiles and tell me what unit they used?

can some one tell if the Garmin eTrex is going to do what i want or do i need to get the summit? The eTrex will interface with a pc but i cant see any thing about it logging elevation on any web site...

    Thanks
    jestah

    Could

from what i under stand, to get an accurate altitude on your GPS, you need an Altimeter on the gps (i believe the Garmin eTrex Vista has an altimiter)

but apart from that im still looking for a decent GPS that will record everything on a graph

I know K-Rimes has posted graphs like the ones you want to get... PM him and ask him what GPS model he skates with.
