Talking Getting ready for Maryhill Festival of Speed

    Hi

Well Its all on... I'm going to be coming 7179.39 miles to get to this amazing piece of road and would like to know as much about the part of the hill that will be used for the racing in September.

Could some one also give me a description of the gradient and radius of each corner and the speed i should expect to hit to be competitive? What is the surface like and will we be expected to hike back to the top after each run?

I know this is asking a lot but i would like to find hills that are remotely similar here in New Zealand so i can train and at least have a chance of not being last down the hill

Any other tips i should know ?

    Thanks
    Jestah

Ps who just LOVES google earth? I sure do

at any sanctioned event you can rely on them for having transport back to the top, its about a 2mile run if i remember correctly, smooth pavement lots of sweepers and hairpins (180)

Mary was designed in 1913 for the cars of that age, the grade is a max 5% and the radius is no less than 100'. The course as raced last year, and it will be the same this year from what I understand, is 2.2 miles Danny Connor was the only rider to complete the course in under 200 seconds during qualifying.

Mary can be quite seductive when the winds are in your face or non existent but when Mary is a bitch and adds that 40mph tailwind you better be prepared with some clean shorts.

it would be fun to do a outlaw race at maryhilll where the winner is the fastest person to hike to the top, get their gear together, and bomb down. that would be a fun endurance race. should only take a 1/2 hour or so.

hope to sk8 with u soon DEANO! RATTTATTACKKKAACKK

Yeah if I heard correctly, there would be rides to the top. Just skate a lot to practice. Cosmiccase will be there so it's guaranteed you won't be in last.

if you search around here on the fish, there are some excellent videos that give you a real good idea what the hill is like.

Also, IMO, one of the most important things to get down between now and then is your tuck. Make sure you have an aerodynamic, stable YET very comfortable tuck that you can stay in for long periods of time. I went to this year's NOVA race and I finally got my tuck into shape so that it was actually not even straining my muscles much at all when I used it, which made me very comfortable just plopping myself down into it. The NOVA race site wasn't a very long run, but I also tried out this tuck on this long azz run in Port Washington and I just sat in my tuck and it was really comfortable, so yeah, basically I am trying to say, make sure your tuck is comfy, especially for a race like Maryhill.

Keep in mind, this is obviously not the only thing you need to do....

P.S. I am sure that a bunch of the other more experienced DHers on here will agree.

YOU HAVE FIVE DAYS TO PRACTISE.

    FIVE.
    COUNT THEM - ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can even get there a few days early and ride since there are no cars on the road.

Skate medium lengthed, smooth hills and dont worry about it. I bet you wont even use all 5 days of practise.
