Default Calling out Pennsylvania skaters...and East Coast riders in general

Ok...so I was up in Ohio visiting my grandparents and on the way there and back I drove through PA on the PA turnpike. There are some nuts hills out there...I mean even the turnpike itself had one section that was a 3 mile section of 5% grade (it was posted on a sign). I know there are some serious down hill runs to be had because I could see them from the interstate and I know there have to be hundreds more that are even better. Someone out there really needs to put together a race of some sorts. Whether it be Outlaw or Organized I couldn't care less but seriously guys...PA has some beautiful runs.

Where at on the turnpike. . .
I know we've been scouring for local (ish) hills latley for DH but I assume you're talking about central PA? (Towards Pittsburgh. . . ?)

I'd love it if there was a race anywhere in the state, I'd be willing to help depending on how close it was. The runs aren't as serious out here towards Philly but if anyone here put a race together I'd be all for it

i think that we should pick 6 states and have our own east coast regional outlaw race, kind of like the igsa has out in cali, but 6 different hills, in 6 different states, throw in cash, block the roads, and race, all of the money would go to gas and prize money. we could have one every other month for the year, so it wouldnt be too close together, and try to schedule around other races, maryhill, topchallenge, danger bay..... there are some awesome hills around, i know that theres one in tn, sams gap that used to be an xgames qualifier race for luge, its something like 4.5 miles long, and super fast, would be an awesome hill to ride, there are some really amazing hills in wv, va, and nc along the blue ridge parkway. i think that we could definatly get some ideas floating around, and we should get something going, who knows, if we start getting some good turn outs, we could probably get some guys to come out from the west coast if the money is good enough

there is a section of highway on the way to penn state that wraps around a resevior. is that what you are talking about? we know we have good runs, but we also have loads of traffic (in our area), and with a lack of cars, and drivers licenses, we cant really travel far.

I was thinking the same exact thing. There's so many good hills up here, we could easily do a series of races.

I've driven the entire PA turnpike about 6 times now going to and from school in Ohio and home in DC and I know exactly what you mean. I can remember there are even longer sections of downhill than the part you are talking about. There is some seriously sicks stuff out there and I would not mind going out to investigate it. Anyone up for a road trip?

Some nice spots around Quakertown. I just got done working up there for a couple months. One little road Ubrecht Rd. off Allentown rd is great. Top part is real steep straight into this downhill chicane. Also around Kutztown is nice. Some longer 3-5 mile type hills.

i know that there is a park in wheeling west virginia that has a perfect hill for a race, we all rode down it when we went to wallys, its probably about a mile long, big sweeping left to start, the a straight section where you hit 45 maybe 50, then a little tiny uphill into a left hander, then you footbreak into a nice right hairpin, and a steep finish and a small parking lot at the bottom... its super easy to block and there isnt much traffic, and the lack of sideroads means that you wouldnt have cars coming out of nowhere. we should definaly get something together and represent some east coast riding, who says all the guys out west have to have all the fun

Yeah...Haha the section i mentioned was in central PA but honestly...it was non stop hills from Ohio to the Maryland boarder. If you guys are really serious about the 6 state series (not a bad name if I do say so myself =P)...the NOVA Bombers will definately have something going on it...we've been working on setting up a legit race and there are several hills that have great potential for an outlaw race.

So Connecticut, NOVA, Penn, W.Va...who else has a crew that could get something going

we have no runs within 30 minutes that would work for an outlaw race because of traffic. havent looked outside of that because of the afformentioned lack of drivers.

Yeah we'd really need to get a race started out towards central Pa, or western PA

Definatley too much traffic around here, and between where we live and big mountains its all farms and ish

Western Maryland has some serious stuff to add in. Just as long as its not snowing. I could make a list of hills with locations if someone is crazy enough to come look here or wanted to set something up.

Well, I am here in Newpaltz New York State this very second and I just came back from some fun hill scouting and if you are ever checking out hills for the New York State, damn there is this super fine hill that goes up to the summit of the "Mohonk" mountain range and I would say it is in the 40mph-50mph speed level and has some Wiiiickkkedd turns. (Of course, with my luck, it's a very trafficy road) But, hey, it would still be prettty sweet to sanction it.

So yeah, that would be really cool to set up a huge race man..... Just wondering, how hard exactly is it to get a road closed?

    P.S.
Sometime we (you all know who I am asking) gotta check out the access roads to: Windham, Hunter, and Bear Mountain....I am sure they would be entertaining....

    PA turnpike hell yes!!

Actually, last fall I took a stretch break on the drive west to Pittsburgh and skated by the side of the road. The hill west and down from the Donegal exit would be amazing, and there are some really slick three lane sections east of the Breezewood exit, hmmmmmm

I'm nominating the Vineyards out here in roanoke for the one serious technical race.
