Sketchiest "Downhill" boards
So what are your sketchiest experiences downhilling on "non-DH" boards?
Yesterday i went to the Niagra Escarpment for some DH and my Caften is being repainted and gripped so all i had was my sector9 "carving/slalom" board with gullwings -(top right). Everyone else had dropped boards, one dude had Smokeys, another had JimZs... and they all had them cranked down super tight - to the point that they BARELY turn even at high speeds.
I hit a wet patch and went slightly sideways at about 70k (50mph), but hooked it up and somehow didnt bail...and i was still the fastest there.

Re: Sketchiest "Downhill" boards
Im finally comfortable on my trucks loose. I used to crank them down a lot but now i love it loose. I realize how wasteful it is to have them super tight when you want them to turn a lot! Thats sick that you beat everyone and all you rode was that piece of crap.

Riding Westmount on a LY Dingy with Indy 109's setup with khiro white alu-insert bushings all around; sketchiest ride ever for downhill...but still really fun!
the feet are so close together its hard to work the turns

Re: Sketchiest "Downhill" boards
Bombing on my humu was pretty sketchy.
When I first started longboarding, I had an Original Custom 45 with S10 trucks. My friend had the same board so we raced a lot. Down big hills, it was about as sketchy as you imagine it to be.

Re: Sketchiest "Downhill" boards
a 12 inch cutting board with 129 trucks and bones soft bushings, and i was only going like 15... so that might not count as actual downhill... but technicaly it was down a hill, but definitly not much of one

Re: Sketchiest "Downhill" boards
The first few times I made it out on some hills, 44" Comet Search For Life(pretty flexy), S9 Pivots with stock bushings, 2 year old S9 Nineballs(at the time), Greaseball bearings. It wasn't sketchy at the time, but when I look back at what I was doing, it was nuts. Going between 45 and 50mph and having no riding style to go on except for old pictures, I took every run on the nose like the picture of the guy on the Bahne going 55.
Appreciate life.

Bombing park street in bristol, midday traffic, on a very flexy TS board. no pads gloves etc. Got the wobbles half way down doing about 25mph ish. managed to ride them out accelerate even more. Overtook two cars and had to run the lights at the bottom cos I was too chicken #### to attempt footbraking on that twitchy liite board. fast and skechy, those manx wheels is quick!

i was bombing my knee on a borrowed tech deck when i clipped the scab and broke my nail...
if you can't understand what's right...
...there will be nothing left.

Re: Sketchiest "Downhill" boards
If you rode your mini everyday it would be fine for dh. Its just getting used to the board. Its only sketchy if you go out and bomb on a mini the first time you ride it.

Re: Sketchiest "Downhill" boards
Bombing my very first hill at any real speed using a stock Sector 9 Cosmic 2 with the trucks finger loose. Haha I actually went into a tuck using and could downhill fairly well on it. For those of you who did the NOVA Outlaw race at Beacon...I did that hill from slightly above the amateur spot using my cosmic (finger loose still), gloves, and bucket helmet

Re: Sketchiest "Downhill" boards
riding down the derby hill in columbus ohio while drafting off of of the motorscooter that we use to get back up the hill towed me over the top of it at 20, on kenny mollicas slalom board, foam core mollica wake and bake, wedged radical front, run super loose, pps offset in the back, on 66mm zigzags. he said that i hit 39, but i know i was wobbling the whole time, and i will never do it again. you know youre going fast when you try to carve big turns at the bottom, and your trucks are so loose that even your huge carves have wobbles

Re: Sketchiest "Downhill" boards
I used to go out on the old school Original deck. Similar to the Gravity hyper carve. It was mounted with S6s and some 62mm wheels. Needless to say, I bailed most everytime, or was scared the whole way down.
