My friend and I were bombing this local hill and started at the same area. This was before he had really worked on his tuck to get it better. As you can see I have much more speed coming around the turn while he is going much slower. I also maintained my tuck through the corner which makes a huge difference as well.

I was running jimzs(don't make you faster) and pink gumballs and he was running an evo with randals and strikers. Obviously the set ups didn't make a difference in our speed.

I was clocked at 35 mph.

    could have been the bearings.
but yeah, definately see your point, a good tuck is very important

Indeed, bearings can do quite a bit. Esp when they are shot. Last weekend One of our faster guys kept finishing last because his bearings are shot. Normally we have really tight battles for first place. But now he was dead last with everybody

EVERYTHING matters, when you speak about speed. From density of air to the temperature of the ground. Tuck, wheel, bearings and weight (dont forget, it's gravity only)
are the most significant. To be really fast, you need all of that. If one is missing... bye bye

    weight?
    JimZ weighs like, 150...
aero tuck and lines through corners are the biggest factors other than equipment

Pink gumballs have better rebound in the thane compared to strikers.

weight makes a huge difference. i weigh 220 and unless i half tuck some of my friends who weigh 155 and 165 cant keep up with me. if they beat me its because ive had trouble with my heelside turning. and figureing out turn in points. ive finally found a comfortable position that lets me turn and drift heelside. so we shall see if they can stay close anymore.
    I\'ll go first...

you are all full of yourselves. When we both went down the hill without tucking our speeds were matched. I was running biltins and he was running reds. Just as good as each other and don't try to argue about it. It is all mental and most of the time tuck will matter.

If you think that my bearings gave me that much of a lead then you are fooling yourself. If you didn't notice i actually cut the time between him and I. He was much farther behind me.

also, excuse my butchered thread title. I am very sick right now and am totally out of it.

There are many things to consider. But we both have pretty damn good setups that are not holding us back and it shows that tuck is the thing that decides who wins or loses. However in a real dh race consistency is the overall winner. Sometimes slow and steady does win the race.

In a race the one who wins is the one who is most effective in breacking before/in corners. It's like that with almost everything

How are we full of ourselves? We're offering other reasons for why you beat him. You're the one saying, "I'm just this much better than my friend, that's why I killed him."

you took that out of context... If you think bearings are what made me beat him then you are all full of yourselves... Not bragging, i am just saying how a tuck matters more.

How would that make us full of ourselves? I'm guessing you're really delirious due to your sickness.

Well we don't know how well he takes care of his bearings. There's a notable difference in speed between bearings that are new and bearings that are rusted and don't spin.

If there was something that made his setup slower i would have told you.

    Alex, IMO:

When you and I are doing long straight runs, since our tucks are pretty similar and we are both pretty damn aero i think that eqiupment may matter a little more such as wheels and bearings. I am talking about maybe skating A longer version of sibbald.
I am talking no drafting, no pushing, nothing but going downhill. I feel that you and I will be pretty close to the same speed. However if I did this with my friend I would probably be going a good amount faster. His equipment is very very similar to yours. He is running 83a bigzigs now and has a better tuck than he used to but i can still beat him by a pretty good amount. His tuck is not as aero as ours IMO.

I'll come out to LI soon. Is it a decently easy drive or would I have to go through NYC?

I would go through NYC. Lol do you want to prove a point or something? I am just saying based on last time i was in CT.

I am talking about speed here guys. Not winning actual races. In actual races a lot of factors come into play.

Let me know when you are coming out. I think (if lb1 is up to it) I will out there on Saturday (this coming up one) so let me know and we can go together. I know my way pretty well.
