    Default tour de downhill

so all this talk about drafting and riding and whatnot got me thinking, i think it would be pretty sick to get a huge mass of people on a nice long road, we all start in one huge group, just like in the tour de france, there would be the main group, i think its like the peloton, or something like that, and it would be interesting to see if people jump out in front and try to draft ahead and stuff, how possible it would be to catch them as a big group. just kinda got me thinking about drafting in a big group, vs drafting in small groups

anyone have any experience with something like this

Look at bump drafting in NASCAR.

What happens when someone is drafting is that the following car get's a huge boost because of the lack of air resistance. But the fact that it allows that air to flow off of the front car much smoother lets the front car go faster too.

The following car still has a greater boost than that car in front so they bump the front car to transfer momentum and stay behind.

This allows two cars to work together to pass many cars that aren't doing this.

ive wondered if 2 riders could do this and go faster together than either would alone even if drafting the other rider. maybe ill try on sunday and see what happens.

Tsmith see the glossary, I wrote an entry for that. over here we bumpdraft all the time and it major works. im talking the difference between 80km/h and 110 on this commonly done straight bomb in vancouver (cypress mtn. road).

and to answere the first post, Giant freerides are AWESOME. we do it annualy at a long curvy hill called jakes rash about 15min. from the Danger Bay campsite, last year it was over 100 people bombing this thing and we rented school busses to take us back up.

how long is that run cause we have one that i go to that my top speed is around 90kmh straight drafting. its a half mile long or about .88 km.

and i was thinking not so much bump draft but more like a team draft. where the rider in the rear get up behind the one in front and puts his hands on top of the front front riders lower back and it would increase both of their aero efficiency. i havent bupmdrafted before but i know what it is.

The would be sick if there was teams of 2 and the goal was the sligshot your teammate so he can take the lead, and repeat this for the other team. So both teams would be slinging eachother for the lead.
