    Default Caften For Commuting

Ok so the Kebbek website says that the Caften was not built to be a racing board and yet, people win races with them. It says that its good for downhill as well as commuting.

Sooooo....can I get some reviews(based on EXPERIENCE) on just HOW good a Jon Caften is for commuting? Im interested in one for just a bit of downhill but also for commuting and long distance around town.

    just a bit of downhill?
im sure you could ride it around town if you wanted, but why shell out all that cash if youre not going to go fast?

I pushed over 3 miles in Downtown Denver riding one.
Its really wide so its nice and stable, while being able to carve with randal 180.
Its a still board and fun to ride.

With Holeys or unflipped Randals the Caften makes a great carving/pushing board, but it's probably a bit big to carry around when you're walking during your commute.

3 miles? :P i crossed town one after noon, 30 Kilometres in just over 3 hours.
its easier to push when its lowered like that, go for 76 or wheels in the low 80s, ive got 83 flys.
i used to commute downtown to work on mine all alst spring. its a great board for low-speed stuff if you run a high-degree truck. im running randal 180s, unflipped, so its 67 in the front with the wedge and 50 in the back cuz its flat, so its nice and carvy still. but ive also taken it up to 50mph/75k with the trucks just as loose.

Running JimZ bushings buy the way. its a great board. you could also dewegde the back if you wanted more of an EVO feel.

it is a little big, but if you just pull it by the truck and let it roll behind u its fine. weighs about 10 pounds.

About a month ago I skated 11 miles in an hour and a half riding my Caften. We were on a bike path that had downhills, uphills, flats, you name it. We went from one end to the other and hit 5.5 miles, then skated back - so whatever was downhill on the way there was then uphill. I have mine set up with Force C7's and 85mm 79a Speed Vents and the ride was awesome.

i've had my caften setup with randal 180's and force c7's. with 180's its completely fine for commuting, and the fact that its lowered gives it an edge in my book.
force c7's have a 35 degree angle, so they're less turny with stock bushings, but i swapped them out for indy oranges and i've gotten used to it. i get around in thick crowds on campus with it all the time.

short answer: yes, its a decent commuter, esp. long distances

Hey thanks for all the fast helpful replies guys. If I ever do get into downhilling, I guess caften will be my first choice.
