Havin a little fun with the papier mache!
It's nothin special....it isn't that great either, it was kinda fun to make though....
after I fix it up a bit and adjust the chin guard (it is sooooo friggin tight!!!) I think I might be on to something....then I guess I will fiberglass it or maybe just poly it and paint it....
it's eventually gonna be purpleishblue.... maybe with a small organic Jam label on the back
or maybe eyelashes like above the face shield and huge lips on the chin guard hahh lol...
anywayz, here are the pics...
enjoy!
P.S. oh yeah, I know I know....it aint safe...and it's not supposed to be either....
P.SS and when I am in my ideal tuck my back can be PERFECTLY flat....I have changed my tuck around too...and it rocks...especially paired with the helmet...

Re: Havin a little fun with the papier mache!
Right on man. Did you use a mold or a template or something?
-
Re: Havin a little fun with the papier mache!
hah skatardude -*remembers dust from constant dremel-ing*- lol
peter- no mold...just duct taped on a tail, shaped it by hand and dremel, then duct taped on some shoulder-ish (ish I tell you) fairings and then shaped those and connected them to the tail and then put on a chin guard.....then papier mache-d it and yeah...
EDIT: Skatardude ahahh oohhhh lol the hanging clothes okay hahahah.

Don't spend $800 on an aero helm! MAKE YOUR OWN!

Yeah I want to eventually have a fully working one....this one is kinda proto you could say.....
or I might just wrap this up in fiberglass and call it the real thing.

Think it would be possible to use sheetmetal and add it onto a regular fullface for an aero helmet? It might be flimsy and not the most effecient, but cheaper than a normal aero helmet... and safe.

I dont know but I definatly wouldnt want sheetmetal crappily attached to my helmet if I ever fell, that stuff can cut you pretty bad.

Re: Havin a little fun with the papier mache!
I like the design and it's a great idea to inexpensively modify a helmet to be nice and aero.
One question though.......can you see when you are in that tuck? Seems like you would want the top portion of the eyespace a little higher. Though I am also unsure how that would be done since there is a helmet underneath. You have definitely given me a project to try!!

Like whoa there tiger said, i was probably talking out of my ass...
But one could round the sheetmetal and put foam pads under it and on the edges, so when one crashes it doesn't fold into their neck and cut them.

Re: Havin a little fun with the papier mache!
or you could use fiberglass or kevlar because its light, and you will want the faring to break away when you crash hard (well i assume you wont want #### digging into your shoulders, and the flextec(thats the name right?) helmets break away for safter reasons)
sheet metal much harder to work with then kevlar or fiberglass, it is also heavy, and unless your planning on making a support for your helmet, not going to work. and if you crash it would spark like hell

Re: Havin a little fun with the papier mache!
Glad there is interest!
Yes, I can see perfectly, but prior to this stage in the product I had to cut off some of the half-shell triple 8 helmet in order to get good visibility....
Yes foam and some sort of composite is the way to go.....or even carboard-ish stuff and composite....
Goddamn this chin guard is tiiighgghghtt I gotta fix it....
I am still going to make a couple more out of half-shell (maybe one or two fullface) helmets.....so the ones that turn out great will be maybe sold and obviously one will go to me....
