No prob. I studied those pics to perfect my Brazilian tuck. I love the footbraking in it. 40 mph footbraking is nothing. You don't have to change your stance at all either. If I can stabilize the footbraking in my American tuck I will start using it more because of the aerodynamic possibilities.

Anyone have tips on highspeed footbraking from the American tuck? Do you grab the board with both hands? I don't feel comfortable standing straight up on one foot at 40 mph. Maybe with time.

Iceman do you know what board is the guy in all black using? It looks like front has no wedging/de-wedging, but the back is de-wedged.

Which wheel has more weight is not going to speed you up in downhill. We put weight on the front truck because it is stable. You may notice a difference because you are crouched over and are more aerodynamic. I agree that a heavier rider probably has the advantage on the straights. Weight placement is not going to change top speed though.

Here's a video with a guy Brazilian tucking. He's the one in the red helmet. I think it is cool to see it in action.

One thing to keep in mind is that cars are significantly more heavy than a skater and his board. Also, the weight distribution of a car is usually constant... skaters can move around, shift their weight forwards and backwards, etc.

True skaters can move around like when taking a corner a skater sometimes drops a knee and shift their wight over etc. I was only using the car thing to give a general idea of how weight distribution can effect handling. It was the only example that came to mind. Thanks for the input.

Yeah exactly... you might have a tuck where a lot of your weight is forward, but as you approach a turn it's easy to sit back a little bit and weight your back truck to keep it from drifting out. Cars can't really do that.

Which is why skating is way cooler than driving

If two riders with identical bodies and tucks but one happened to weight 50 lbs more the heavier would be faster. This is because they are creating the same amount wind resistance but the heavier rider will not be slowed down as much by the wind.

An analogy to this would be an empty train coming to the stop and fully loaded train coming to a stop. There is the constant negative force of the brake (analogy=wind resistance) and a moving object. The heavier train takes much longer to come to a stop.

Now where your body is placed on your board does nothing to your speed. If you had two identical people bombing a hill on a old school dancer one tucking at the nose the other at the rear, they would be just as fast (given same tuck, same weight, being able to be stable at the back of the board etc.)
As EFG said, this is done for stability, steering a board from the front is much more stable than steering from the back. This is why a lot of people who are mongo have trouble footbraking at speed.

Maybe if they raced down a perfectly straight hill... On anything with corners, heavy riders have a disadvantage.
