hello, in need of a bit advice here. I`ve been longboarding since summer now and I mostly ride downhill-ish...I`ve got to about 70km/h. This winter I wanna redo my setup so I will be more downhill oriented. So far I`ve ridden my homemade deck, randal rII 50* with landyachtz 78a monsterhawgs wheels. I would like my setup to be a bit drifty yet stable. I will be building my own board again, this time it will be a boar inspired by a hellcat, for the trucks I was thinking of replacing the back plate with a 42* one and put in venom eliminator bushings. I`m quite light(under 70kg) so I was thinking medim in front and hard in the back. For the wheels I will probbably buy some purple in heats. What do you think?

if you are making/buying a symmetrical deck use same duro/shape combo for front and back. first of all if you dont you have to make sure youre board is in the right direction. 70kg, is that like 120-130? im 100 and i like a combination of 79a and 85a barrels. i prefer barrels just because they fit better in most trucks than a stepped bushing. if you go with a stepped bushing i believe you can go a little softer? if you plan on going signifigantly faster than 70km/h (about 35-40mph?) i would definitly get 42* or even 35* if your not doing too many hairpin runs. thats my opinion though lots of people use 50* randals for really high speeds. personally i like paris better than randals. i also like bears but those have an even higher * baseplate and i havent tried them for dh so idk if they would be good. no matter the shape of the deck i prefer the same * plate in front and back. i dont like having more turn in front, it just feels weird to me. im no expert so if i am making any mistakes please tell me. this info is mainly from tryin different bushings and trucks. i dont know as much about wheels or decks.

can i bomb like 50 mph on an fsm with 50* randals?(might be a dumb question lol) i havent tried it because i dont know my limits on my board yet. hopefully there are no limits.. anyways i want to be able to go really fast but i also like to have that carvy fun setup when im riding the flats/smaller hills. would it be wise to get a board for dh and keep my fsm for small hills, carving, freeriding, etc?
idk maybe silly ? to ask but all help/suggestions would be nice..

People are able to bomb on that setup at 50, but most aren't able to handle the turniness at speed. Most people run 45 degree trucks and lower.

this is one of those things where if your asking about it, its beyond your limitations. that said it may not be true. many people can handle 50mph on 50* randals. i dont think your one of them. i would grab some 42s and then try it. as for the deck again if your inquiring its probobly beyond your limitations. that said the fsm can definitly handle those speeds. we cant tell you what your limitations are. all we can tell you is that its possible. if i were you i would get 42 plates and a nice big drop deck (unless your already hitting pretty high speeds) and work your way up to 50mph. i dont think you realize how gnar 50mph is. i sure as hell know i dont.
Hope this helps

lol now that i look back on posting that im thinking "wtf was a saying?"
does 50 mph feel that much more intense then 40? i went 40 MPH yesterday on my fsm with randals and 50* base's. and i bombed the biggest hill of my life right after that ^.^ but i didnt clock my speed going down that 1 :\
im looking to get a more DH oriented board then the FSM.
what do you think about the Deeznutz? front wedged 10* back -6*
or should i get a top mount like a voodoo XL?
my parents never know what to get my for x-mas and i think an addition to the small quivah would be good ^.^

what do you think about 38" Madrid Downhill Andrew Mercado model as a first topmount board? I`ve been riding since summer, have gone up to 70-80km/h just the other day and felt solid.
would comet voodoo classic/xl be a better choice?
edit: oh goddamit, too many choices, just please recomend me a good topmount for DH.
keep your fsm and get a nemesis. imho dh and carving are two opposite ends of the same spectrum. i like an evo for cruising/carving and know the neme is the main dh board in my quiver. solid as a rock which means it aint any good for carving.
which one is better? loaded dervish flex 2 with 180 randals otangs in heats(orange) or landyachtz battle axe with 180 paris retro big zigs. i just want to go 35-45mph i do alot of carving and tricks. i weight around 130lbs

any dh on a dervish should be done on a flex 1 if that. [dh on a dervish is not recommended] from landy i would say drop carve. with randal 180's.
but thats just me opinion. if it was me i would get the landy switch with crails and maybe some s9 rf's. but thats beside the fact.

So i'm deciding between a landy dh race or evo. My question is whats the advantage of having wedge/dewedge on the evo vs. dewedge/dewedge on the dh race. I know what wedge and dewedge do, but how do the boards feel in comparison

You don't do DH on a Dervish, period. The LY would be much better suited for some speed.

Forget abouth the DH Race, outdated deck only liked by some special few.
The wedge/dewedge of the Evo is originally designed for use with Randal DH trucks with 35 degree baseplates. The design of the Evo is to make to the front turny and the rear dead-ish, makes for a stable front steering ride. Note that most shops selling Evo completes sells them with 50 degree trucks all over, not ideal IMO, because the front wedging takes a 50 degree truck out of it's "sweet spot", a typical popular setup is a 35 plate front, 50 rear, keeping it more agile than the original 35/35 setup it was designed for.

do the trucks have to be the same brand? because ive got trucks that are 35 and 50, but their different brand and they look different....so im wondering if its ok to use them together?

Fine.
2 trucks + 4 wheels + something to stand on + some other crap = stoked
