Actually...If you're completely new to speedboarding...stiffness is good. A slightly flexy board will allow a little more snap and feel in corners (I prefer having a little bit of flex) but a very stiff board is much more stable and easy to handle.

    For DH, stiffness is better.

I took a bad fall on 5/24/2008 at Mt. Baker, went off the road and fell down the side of the mountain. I went into a coma, badly broke my pelvis, lacerated my liver and almost died on the mountain AND later in the hospital. The rehabilitation therapists had to teach me how to do everything again...everything.

I survived that mountain because of my helmet...WEAR ONE and send your family to the hospital, not the morgue.

I said a total newbie to longboarding, not speedboarding. Someone who has decided that they want o learn to longboard fast, and has just started, might want an easier board, as 30mph* will most likely be a top speed. Then, they can move their more comforable oard to a cruising deck, and get a dedicated speed board. At least that is my view. (coming out of a person riding a fibreflex pintail )

*when you live in gainesville florida, 30mph is a top speed for most places. you just gotta look forward to that trip to the appalachians...

I've never really owned a flexy board, I like stiffness.

steveC your own drawings show that flipping the hanger changes the angle. its where the axle is that matters. its like a virtual pivot point.

I know where you're coming from but the first board I bought was a Bomb Hills that I taught myself to ride on. Every board I've stepped on after that has been cake to pick up.

Then again, there aren't a lot of hills near me and the ones that are there are pretty tame. Either way, I'm happy that I started with a stiff, entry level speedboard.
Help, I've fallen and I'm probably concussed.
