yeah, Savannah doesn't have much, but does have more elevation change than where I live. I also ride a rayne avenger, btw, but I learned for 4 years (got it when I was 10 or 11) on that pintail. I still only have 3 boards, one which is partly my sibling's.

Just FYI the Fu Manchus grip but you can get them to slide and drift if you carve hard.

Re: Beginner DH decks and trucks
ok so i want to get into speedboarding, but i dont want to spend a lot of money on a new deck since i already have a sector 9 bamboo surf camp. its just a standard pintail, but can i speedboard on it? it has a lot of flex, so will that make it harder to balance at higher speeds?

Flex makes turning at decent speeds unpredictable-
particularly torsional flex, something pintails have in spades.
it's not impossible to make your board more stable, but it's never going to meet real speedboard standards.

cool thanks. so really i need a stabler, maybe heavier board? cuz the bamboo weighs pretty much nothing. and basically no or limited flex right?

a little flex is good for soaking up vibration (helps traction as the wheels don't skip along)
but generally speaking, stiff-as...

well nate your silverfish account was born after that happened. the dude at CLB pretty much vanished without explination, people who payed for their boards did not get a board or there money back. he finally started emailing people who had ordered and payed for his products, and he returned their money.

Re: Beginner DH decks and trucks
Beginnger Downhill Complete Board:
Deck: Landyachtz Evo
Trucks: Randall R-II 180mm
Wheels: Abec11 BigZigs 75mm 80a
Bearings: IDS Oust Abec 7 w/ spacers
-or-
Deck: Loaded Dervish flex 2
Trucks: Randal R-II 180mm
Wheels: Abec11 BigZigs 75mm 80a
Bearings: Abec 11 Biltin Abec 7 w/ spacers
Which setup, or which changes would you make to the package?

Re: Beginner DH decks and trucks
The Evo is a tested and proven DH board, whereas the Dervish is a board more for carving and other 'free-ride' type activities.
I would never do anything approaching serious DH on a Dervish (but a Dervish in the right context looks like an awful lot of fun).
Think of the Evo as the board to bring to a DH competition, whereas the Dervish is for neighborhood crusing and carving the local hills.
