That`s very much less of a problem anymore as current Hellcats has a much thicker nose than previous versions.

Re: Beginner DH decks and trucks
I just started riding a week ago on an old Layback I have. It's not the perfect ride but it's good enough to get me interested. I must say that this is probably THE most helpful thread I have found in my search. As of right now I'm purely a DH man but I'm looking to get into the other feilds. This thread is my go to spot for when I make my board it's own entity. One noob question though. Going with low duros would be a good idea for me considering I'm just going pure dh, right? I was gonna get some lows for a smooth ride and higher so I can learn to slide. Do I have the general idea? Thanks to whoever replies.

I'll try to help you out as much as I can, I would say it's more preference whether you want a hard or soft wheel.
For me personally I'd want something in between like an 80a duro so it's still able to be put into a drift, but still soft enough to grip when you need it to.

yeah i run 83a in heats on my setup and they grip like a dream. and then when i need to drift or pendy, my wheels are there for me.

Considering I want to learn how to drift, maybe I'll get something with a little higher duro. Just enough to slide. The wheels I have right now are stock but they work pretty well for pure DH.

Re: Beginner DH decks and trucks
So why are soft duro's not used in DH?
I just bomb a hill yesterday with my 75a tunnels and I got the back end to unlock and slide for a bit.
I used a little more weight but it worked and the soft wheels make for a very smooth ride.
Do ppl think softer wheels = too much traction or what?
I have an 08 Hellcat, Apex 37, Randals, S8 Originals, Paris, Crails, Hi-Gravitys, Retro Freerides, Blitins, bones reds, and Venom bushings FOR SALE

well i would think DH riders like duros around like 80a to 88a or something because drifting is pretty much essential in this specific discipline and so are pendulum slides. also a duro in the 80's can grip amazingly as well. so that may be the reason. but idk. its just my thought on that.

Re: Beginner DH decks and trucks
maybe i wont use the randals with stock bushings , cause yesterday i took the biggest fall i ever have cause i got speed wobles on my randal 180's on a medium steep hill going around a corner at about 20 and SMASHED my tailbone and skull on the pavement
i wont b skating until probably summer at this rate.
and also is there any trucks ( under 150 ) that are like INSANELY HARD to get speed wobbles on? (with any bushing setup)
and its weird that i got speed wobbles cause i never have on those trucks , even going 30-40.

Holding a steady line straight down a hill is one thing. Holding a steady line in a corner is entirely different. No trucks are immune to wobbling. A truck that is closer to 0* or tighter may be more steady for some riders (primarily an inexperienced rider) in a straight line, but the minute you have to turn, it's going to require more/harder lean to get the same amount of turn. This moves your center of gravity around in a funny way. If you're not used to controlling it, no piece of gear is going to save ya. The funny thing is, alot of "stable" setups are overkill for some straights, and don't turn enough to get you around a corner safely. It's best to find a happy medium that works for the majority of your riding/runs, and get better skating that setup. IMO
Probably not what you wanted to hear.
Practice.
Practice.
Practice.
Kind of a canned answer, but I think sometimes people forget that they may actually have to have some stability thru a turn.

You should also make sure you have a good stance on your board. Trucks don't fix the wobbles... you do. Of coarse trucks can help but besides that. I'm a noob but I think I have a good handle on my wobbles. I actually have a Layback with stock trucks and I get no wobbles on the straights and little to moderate on turns.
If you have a longer board make sure you are standing toward the front. The further back you are, the more wobbles you'll get. If you are on a shorter board, just make sure you have the majority of weight on your front foot. Trust me I've done my homework on this. No matter what you're riding, you want weight on the front.

Re: Beginner DH decks and trucks
i have a very good control on the wobbles , and i almost NEVER get them , which is what makes me so paranoid , idk why i got them at that random time , and i dont want to run into them again , so i was wondering if i can change bushings or get trucks that help prevent them.

wobbles are all mental. if you're nervous or aren't relaxed you're going to get wobbles. if you hit something to shift your balance off a bit, you're going to get wobbles.
trucks and bushings themselves don't "fix" wobbles. like someone said before, everything is prone to wobbles. it all depends on the rider

actually i was told by many riders that wobbles do also happen from having too much play with your wheels.

That is definitely true too! If your wheels wiggle too much you'll get more wobbles. If you have spacers you can tighten them to no play and you'll still have speed. w/o them, you should tighten them to no play and then slowly back track.
