not putting hands down when cornering is one thing. Not having gloves when having to emergancy slide is another

Stricker doesnt care... If he has to stop in case of emergency, he slide with no glove
(I really think he would lol). Or he' d just throw himself out of the board and stop just as fast lol
Also, the kind of roads he ride (Cypress for exemple) doesnt really requires an emergency slides of any kind since you can pretty much see 2km ahead of you...

Yeah Bricin !!!!

Got impressed when we arrived at the beginning of the flat part of Jakes Rash when him and his 300lbs screamed "ROOOOOMMMMMM" to let me know he was right onto my ass and I moved out of his way to let him pass...
I'd love to race him again there... I wont get out of my line twice for sure

nice pic indeed.
But, not being a school teacher.
He does give a bad exaple, not wearing gloves and so. It's still pretty risky, no matter what r8oad you're riding

Re: Teutonia 2007
I WOULD PUT MY MONEY ON DAVE ROGERS FOR BOTH LUGE AND STAND UP!
weight is not everything you must have a balance between weight and aero. too much weight, ie fat can prevent you from being aero enough.
i know this from both sides of the equation.
also
GPS IS BULL #### it takes minutes for the satalites to update.
if you dont believe me then you should research it, OH
AND DAVID PRICE HIT 103 MPH WHEN WE WERE AT RIST EARLIER THIS WEEK!
TOO BAD HE IS NOT IN BRASIL, HE WOULD CLEARLY WIN IT IF GPS MATTERED.
and i beat him down the hill, felt more like mid to upper 60s but i guess GPS rules all.
if you want a good example from the past of weight and aero, MARK GOLTER. He was a true machine in his hayday.
anyway I hope everyone races hard and clean this weekend and the true speed champion will be crowned!!!!
i cant wait!!!

Re: Teutonia 2007
Ive found gps to be quite accurate. Just drive around and compare. It usually lags behind by a few seconds, but the speed it reads is pretty much the same as the spedometer in my experience.
Ofcourse its not accurate enough for an event like this, but i doubt its very far off if at all.

Re: Teutonia 2007
GPS does not take "minutes" to update. And since it's not like a skater goes from 50mph to 80mph and then back to 50mph in three seconds, there is plenty of time for it to record accurately at top speed. But they aren't using GPS for the Guinness record so don't worry about it.

Re: Teutonia 2007
if GPS is really super accurate then how did i go 103mph?
to go for a skate is to go for a drift, to explore the streets looking for hidden places, opportunities for creative misappropriation; it is to recombine the artifacts of production and reinterpret the city for oneself-ocean howell

Re: Teutonia 2007
The basic GPS system is most accurate at calculating these things in the following order.
1. Time of day to 10's of nano seconds
2. Velocity .1mph
3. Location +/- 15 ft
4. Bearing +/- .2 degrees
5. Elevation (the worst)
This does not include DGPS or WAAS enhanced systems.
Precision is based on how many satellites are locked onto without interruption and the angle to the satellite
The longer a GPS receiver collects data the better the GDOP and PDOP gets and the Kalman filtering can work to smooth out bad data points and produce and accurate result.
Besides interrupting the GPS signals with trees, your body, antenna not having clear view of the sky, many consumer GPS units are not up to the task of quick accurate results. You get what you pay for even in GPS.
A cheap GPS unit has a single channel and it scans and samples each satellite one at a time for updated data.. Some can scan as little as 6 and as many as 12. The more expensive units have up to 12 receivers continuously locked onto the satellites making simultaneous measurements resulting in faster resolution of accurate calculations. Some receivers will even measure the carrier phase differential for an even better result. It does not stop at the receiver. The software running in your GPS is also important. If it is not optimized for it's purpose, you will get middle of the road performance on the function. For accurate speed the software must be smart enough to know what a BAD data point is and either throw it out and start over or fill in the blanks with an average of the velocity points.
I am sorry to say that although the Garmin Forerunners are nice little and cheap units, they suck for fast changing environments for every reason stated above. The will work if all conditions are perfect at the time of your run, to bad that unit, and most others, do not tell you if the conditions were right or not.
Also, You have more chance of better results the further you get from the North or South Poles.
GPS can be used for speed record measurements "legally" if they can store, in memory, and dump to an external post processor, the satellite PDOP, GDOP, location and velocity data. These units cost a bit to much to be carrying around on a skateboard.
I hope that clears up the myths and concerns on GPS
Now, Where are the Results????????????????
Go Dave!!!!
