Re: Teutonia 2007
I think the only results anyone's got are those posted above that Luis Lins sent to a large group of us. If you missed them, they are:
The Standup final was Dalua v. K-Rimes
1st place: Kevin K-Rimes Reimer/Canada
2 place Douglas/Brazil
3 place Thiago/Brazil
4 place Junior/Brazil
That makes it sound like the finals were run in heat of two. Odd, but maybe the road required it or that's a format they run, I dunno. In terms of the GWR, we thought we'd have a number and a name by now...we're all sure that Hardwick's speed was surpassed... but Luis reports his friend at the race says the Guinness people will announce it "later". Later today, tomorrow -- who knows?
If you find it, post it.
In the meantime, Congratulations K-Rimes!! What an adventure!!

Did you win because of a tactical mistake, better equipment?
Is it faster than Rist?
What did they run for thane? I assume you ran pnkbigzgzz.

Re: Teutonia 2007
this is a roughly translated new article from another board. The news really sucks. IMHO they should not have been using radar and I would have hoped they hired an independent professional timing company with so much on the line with people traveling from around the world to run for the record.
Guys. If you are seriously considering RECORD speed runs... go through the trouble and hire a pro to time and record it. Even if you can measure the speed correctly, record keepers want an unbiased and independant judge of the results...
Bob
PS. Why wait till next year... do it now and get it in the 2008 book
Here is the read
************************************************** ****************
Going for a Guinness skate to 113 km / h
Skatista of San Leopoldo hit a record in the category stand up in the championship held in TeutôniaO Pioneers Douglas da Silva, 24 years, of San Leopoldo, could be in the Guinness Book 2008. On Saturday, between 58 pioneer of the class stand up (standing on the board), passed by radar installed on the slope of access to the Lake Harmony, in Teutônia, in the Valley of the Taquari, at the speed of 113 km / h.
Douglas beat the 100.6 km / h that Gary Hardwick was reached in 1998, in California. The measurement in this end of the week occurred during the fourth edition of the championship to skate down hill Malarrara Pro Teutônia International, with the participation of athletes from the United States, Canada, Chile and 10 Brazilian states.
Two other categories were disputed in line (skating), with two competitors, and street luge (athlete lying on the skate), with 12 entered.
- It is a pleasure to enter the book of records, know that the whole world will see my name, "said Douglas, known among practitioners of the sport as the moon
He was dissatisfied with the outcome because in measurements during the drills, using a GPS, its speed would have reached 120 km / h. This equipment is used to measure the speed during the championship. Douglas falls since 2001 and is champion Brazil and South American form of stand up.
In modality in line, the fastest on the track was Kerssler Juliano, 31 years, known as Scania, in Porto Alegre. Over the slope to 99 km / h, but not beat the record of 104.3 km / h achieved in California. In street luge, speed could not be recorded by technical problems. As athletes knocked down in the skate and in vegetation, the radar failed to capture all movements.
- For Guinness, we attempt to register the speed in the coming year with another type of equipment, perhaps a tree-provides the organizer of the championship, Paulo Martins.
During this week, they should send the photos and data issued by the radar for the Guinness Book of the team, requesting the approval of the record. The next attempt to break the record will be held in the state of Colorado in the United States next year.
While we await the final placement of all the Champ! ! ! !

Re: Teutonia 2007
Meatball on coastlongboarding.com:
Douglas had the fastest speed on saturday(113k), Everton 109k and Krimes had 107k. They couldnt record my speed and one other guys. So we tried our runs sunday morning. they still couldnt get it so i had to put on a jersey to get the camera to read and it and finally got my speed on a crappy run(108k). The camera recorded Krimes at 111k and me at 110k during the race but cause the equipement was all screwey I dont think they will register a world record. This is the radest hill Ive ever hit and my new favorite. I got 6th in the race... brain farted in the quartersand gave a guy too much space to draft. Drafted the defending champ at well over 100k in the previous round. Krimes killed it all the way to the final and made Canada proud. He killed everyone till the final where he just held off a charging Douglas. Douglas wobbed trying to draft him and slid forever. Striker charged the hill like a runaway train and got awarded a trophy for the best spirit. Everybody fell in love with him instantly. The people of brazil are so friendly and greatful that we come to there events. The hospitality is amazing. I recommend this as one of the best races to attend.

The racers calling in are calling the course at Teutonia one of the most intimidating hills they’ve ever been on. The racing was conducted in dual-racer forma, and there was a lot of carnage with skaters and streetlugers coming off their rides. Injuries occurred, but from what we’re hearing they were primarily to leathers, pride and bruises! Several hard crashes were actually in the runout, where it was necessary to quickly and effectively stop in order to avoid a bus parked to close off the road from traffic. Streetlugers coming into the runout at over 80mph were leaving huge trails of rubber smoke.
Dave Rogers is the Streetluge Champion! He reports a bad crash as he came into the runout after winning his last semi-final. His visor popped open just as he crossed the line at 80-85mph. The instantaneous drag slammed Dave’s helmet back onto the headrest on his streetluge and he was forced to attempt hard braking while on his back (rather than sitting upright as is typically done to put weight on the racer’s feet and add wind resistance). The effort lifted Rogers off his sled and tossed him into a ragdoll tumble, tearing up his speedsuit and banging him up pretty good. K-Rimes told him it was one of the worst crashes he’s seen.
Fortunately for Rogers, his injuries were, in fact, minor and he was able to tape his speedsuit back together. He also sealed his visor down on his helmet and went to the Final Round against Ross “The Boss” Baradoy. You’ve seen photos of Baradoy’s speed record luge with the giant, white tailcone. That’s the rig he ran in the racing, on a set of 97mm Reflex Flywheels but without the tailcone. Dave Rogers rolled on a fully-faired Rogers Bros. streetluge and 83mm, amber Flywheels from the Rogers Bros. stash of uber-thane. In the final, Rogers got out for the lead and Baradoy came off in a non-injury crash while following Dave toward the line. Dave Rogers is the Teutonia Streetluge Champion!

In Speedboarding, we’ve only got a few details about the Final Round with Douglas “Dalua” Silva and Kevin “K-Rimes” Reimer. We’re hearing that Dalua was fast all weekend and rolled on 90mm Flys in his final with the speedy Canadian in white. K-Rimes apparently qualified on Pink Gumballs or Bigs, but raced the final on lime Big Zigs. K-Rimes, who had reportedly stayed on his board all weekend without incident, was able to launch out in front of the fastest skateboarding Brazilian on earth and Dalua couldn’t catch him before going down either just above or below the finish line. K-Rimes is the Teutonia Speedboarding Champion!!
We still don’t have any results from Saturday’s attempts to set a new Guinness World Record, but we do have some information regarding why we don’t know more: the decision by Guinness was not to attend but to allow a local contractor to measure skater and streetluge speed with a radar gun. Apparently, there were many difficulties with the system and the ability to record speeds. We’re hearing that our man Meatball took four runs on Saturday before the gun would even take a speed of of him. Even after he removed the secret Landyacht stealth fighter, anti-radar panels from his secret prototype Tang leathers, there were apparent difficulties. Okay, if you want the secret stealth panels, you have to call Landyachtz and ask for Sam, but they don’t really exist… The radar crew and skaters resorted to using bibs and other devices designed to reflect the radar waves. We’re a little confused by all this, since even the low-tech Silverfish Radar gun will ping and record off of a 100-mph baseball with far less cross-section than the cleanest of skaters, so there may be more to this story and details we’re just not getting. Anyway, there were apparently so many troubles finding a ping-back for the streetlugers that they’re not sure any good numbers were recorded at all.
In terms of what will the record “be”, it looks like Dalua’s 113kph speed was the fastest skateboard number recorded and that he will be submitting that to Guinness. Of course, the wheels in many heads are already spinning and we can predict a certain phone call to the local agency in the vicinity of Rist Canyon…

Re: Teutonia 2007
Here's what I've heard so far. Guiness didn't want a time trap for the record setting, and will only accept radar as the method for recording. A local entity was responsible for getting the speeds, and there were many problems. The streetluge times were essentially useless, and some of the standup riders times were questionable or non-existent after Saturday. Apparantly Douglas "DaLua" Silva had the fastest time of 113kph which is 70.215mph. He will have to submit this to Guinness to see if they accept it. He attempted the record and raced on 90mm Flywheels.
Dave Rogers survived an intense crash in the braking area after winning in his semifinal heat against one of the Brazilians. His visor flipped open at over 80mph as he passed the finish line and it pinned his head back onto the headrest making braking a difficult task. You have to hit the brakes hard after crossing the linbe or you'll crash into the bus at the end of the line. Dave's luge came out from under him and he rag-dolled down the rest of the track. K-Rimes said that it was the most intense thing that he had ever seen, but Dave walked away without any major injuries. He taped his battered speedsuit up, taped down his visor, and went back up to take Ross in the (dual) finals. Ross crashed (while behind Dave) in the finals to take second. Dave was on 83mm Flywheels and Ross was on 90mm blacked cored Reflex Formula Flywheels (yummy).
I guess that Kevins balls and comfort at high speed paid off, because he was consistent throughout the races. DaLua couldn't get by him in the end, and crashed toward the end of the finals. Kevin had switched from Pink 70mm ZigZags to Lime BigZigs for the victory, while DaLua stuck with his 90mm Flywheels.
This is a scary fast and intimidating hill, and there were tons of crashes in both Downhill and Streetluhe. High speed crashes. Wads left and right. It doesn't sound like anyone was hurt too badly. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger...
**** Looks like Erik beat me to the punch. But I can tell you that Ross' Flywheels were 90mm and not 97mm ****
