The race is this weekend and I've already started to hear about a Brazilian breaking 80mph (131km/h). So...who's got info, news, speeds, records whatever? Who's there, who's expected to be a major competitor, thoughts on what the new record will be?
well haha nevermind then...thank you very much. Don't speak Portuguese (but I do speak Spanish...so maybe I'll look) but I do speak Northern Californian and Canadian .
Anyway.... yeah, Douglas Silva (Dalua) recorded 81.3mph (131kph) on a GPS on Wednesday. The Guinness World Record part of the event is scheduled for Saturday, from 2pm to 6pm. By Saturday evening, we'll have a new GWR! The partly-English version of the website for the race is HERE. That server goes down occasionally, so you may have to check back... tthey've got photos and some vid from last year.
Not Brazilian riders that are racing, are canadians, Bricin, Kevin Reimer, Thomas Edstrand. From Usa Rick Kludy, Dave Rogers and Cliff Coleman. From Australia soma dude I dont know, and from my country Chile two of my friends Diego Alemparte and Rene Riveros. Who do I expect to win? dont know, Dalua kills it on that road, so does vermelho and everton and many others crazy Brazilians, but this year its going to be nuts and some of the people that came from other countries have a chance.
Speed record, I guess.... hmmm 134km/h Who? Dalua, Everton, Kevin, Dave... I dont know! we will see!
Ross the Boss from calgary is going to absolutly kill it there with the luge he made. the thing is nuts!
at the outlaw last week fastest we could get standing up was 95kmh, fastest he got was 117 and he wasnt going all out... the thing just looks ####### nuts
I hope there are no flying R-Bros boards....Those things would be deadly if they became airborn at 100+Kph...bah, I guess wood would too
Yeah, I really hope everyone walks away from this race alright. You aren't going to walk away from it if you hit pavement going 80mph and as you said, flying boards at that speed would be deadly.

Whats up with Brazilians and the last name Silva?? I can name over 15 people from brazil with the last name of Silva, let alone the thousands i'm sure i dont know of. All last names aside, i wanna wish everyone attending a safe and fun-filled time, free of injuries. Good luck to all you guys that are literally pushing the sport to new levels! Cheers.
I don't think the GPS is an issue with Dalua's speed. If he was riding in a straightish line and has even a decent unit, it's very accurate when mounted on the board or his shoe. Either way, the Guiness officials will use either radar or a speed trap. The Teutonia site suggests it's radar.

He is my greatest argument for weight classes.

Martin admitted that he is too light compared to other racers who are just as aero as he is. Martin definitely makes up for his weight with insane cornering skills.
However, I am sure that a heavier rider who is just as aero would be able to go much faster than a lighter one especially at these speeds.
The heavier rider will be able to push through the wind much better.
