so me and my friend are making a movie just for fun and we wanted to film probably my favorite road. we get there and i do a couple runs and we get some cool shots. we had to film the last turn and this lady who was walking stopped to talk to friend who just drove by, no big deal right? WRONG, she talked to the man in the car for 30 MINS!!!!! taking up the ENTIRE ROAD!!!!!! so i decide to be patient and wait it out and try not to be annoying or rude by interrupting their conversation. the car finally drives off and guess what? she sees ANOTHER friend and does the exact same thing except only for 20 mins this time. i was furious she was being very inconsiderate it was obvious what i was trying to do and i was nice and said hello and asked how she was doing when i was walking to the top. some people have no common sense all she had to do was tell the person she was talking to to pull up a little bit so they were out of the way.

yea that sucks, kinda reminds me of my weekend cept we were a bit luckier than you all. me and my friends got to this one hill after filming a few others and everything is great we keep taking different clips and eventually after enough runs we stop at an intersection and while we are looking at the videos a truck goes through and when he goes through the turn he somehow dumps a load of water all over the road from his bed. It was the most ridiculous thing i have ever seen, but thankfully we were just finishing up on the road. It can be pretty ridiculous what kinda stuff happens when you're trying to skate.
I ride in Spain, where there's actually a distinct clause in the highway code banning skateboards from roads. Anytime something like this happens to me I just have to cringe and grovel because I'm the illegal one. They actually call up the cops here when they see you boarding. Once I rode a hill and was pulled over by the cops before I'd even finished my run. The run takes less than four minutes, and the cops told me they only bothered me because someone called them and they were obliged to react. In less than three minutes! Someone actuall speed-dialled 'em!
Your situation was frustrating, hope mine makes you feel better though.

yeah that sucks really bad, that's why i didn't want to say anything because i didn't want her to say i couldn't ride there anymore, that's be awesome cause that road is sweet

Next time just run the old bag down...lol
No really patients go a long ways, bite your tongue and just wait.
As the sport booms in popularity in my area and more and more riders are out on the streets I really worry about what impact its going to have.
I see the future one of two ways.
1. Riders out on hills in increasing numbers and in popular spots acting like asses, being rude, having no respect for the community and the people living there resulting in the cops being called everytime a rider steps foot on the spot.
2. Riders being respectful, engaging the community with waves or greetings, explaining the sport, being low key.
Its really in our hands. Right now we are a curiosity. Sure you have some folks making the quick equation that we are just like the skateboard punks they have seen in the past. But for the most part we can still decide how the community reacts to us as a group. Lets make sure we dont hurt the community and close out the good spots.

I see a problem arising in my area, the sport is spreading and a lot of disrespectful people are starting to pick it up, or at least they talk about it.Hopefully though if they do really start riding they'll fall into the chill aspect of the sport. That or hopefully they just wont actually get boards.:]

It's hard to have respect for people while you're boarding and people throw stuff at you, yell at you, cut you off even on the side of the road, sit in the middle of crosswalks or entrances/exits to parking lots, or speed by you like a bat out of hell even though you're nowhere near in their way. People seem to see the board and assume we're punks and treat us as such.
Mind you there has also been plenty of people who my friend and I have rode by on a hill as they watched and when we walk back up we've sat and talked to them, explained the sport, let em see our board, and just generally be nice. Those people I have respect for, people who jump to conclusions because of the board, I do not. You must show respect to receive it.
yeah the best thing to do is just smile and wave and be in a general a nice person to everyone you see even those who are rude to you because you never know maybe they will see your not a jackass and be nice the next time.
