I say let him do it if he wants to try. You take away a persons volition and all you have left is an empty husk. That goes for all of us. Taking risk factors into account is the only right way to do it, telling him he will die trying is pretty presumptuous. Feel free to disagree, thats just my 2 cents. If the event can get sponsored that would be the best way to do it since the sponsors would help with the safety (red bull can supply pro-drivers and the right equipment)

There is no "official" record as there is no internationally recognized official sanctioning body with consistent rules regarding what is legal equipment and a timing system. There was an attempt by Guiness to organize an event at the Teutonia Brasil downhill race but it was plagued by irregularities and not all runs or all riders were recorded.

K-rimes and Dubester prolly went faster than 75mph in Colorado but this was a GPS reading. They say the hill they were on is definitely faster than the one in Brasil. Do a search because they described it here on the 'fish. Here is one link:

I'd recommend some way to let the driver know if something goes wrong. Maybe have someone in the back seat to signal to. In the event that you needed to stop accelerating, I'd imagine if you just let go of the car or rope or whatever, coming out of the car's draft pocket could get really sketchy at 85+. Good luck dude. That's seriously something to film in as close to HD as possible. It'll make for some sick footage later on.

Well, I was driving on the interstate a few days ago and gave this some thought...
Here's how I would go about hitting 100mph on a skateboard!

I would first obtain the following:
    1) GPS Wheels
    2) Ceramic bearings
    3) New, single-piece leathers
    4) Motorcycle helmet
    5) Purple Khiro bushings
    6) Randal DH trucks w/ Luge hangers

I would then set out to find a stretch of freshly paved interstate.. Ideally, so fresh as to still be blocked off to traffic.

I wouldn't use a tow rope, I'd hang on to the back of the SUV/truck/van (with most of my upper body inside). Then I could just slide out and coast @ 100mph. I'd probably have to work up to it, too. Skitching feels so much different than being pulled by gravity alone. This definitely wouldn't be a one-day thing.

A lowered board would also be a good decision for this attempt.

Aside from the Many concerns already stated. I would be worried about the possibilities of the board lifting off the ground at that speed. The rider does not look very heavy and a slight de-weighting of the board could get it airborne. I also would like to see him call off the attempt or at least work up to it.
I would want to know that he can handle 55 mph standing downhill before he tries it behind a car.
I also think there is a risk that he could be removed from his parents custody if he is injured and the state finds that his parents approved of the attempt. I hope all of this combined with the recent tragic injury of his friends will convince him that
    IT'S JUST NOT WORTH IT.

If you do decide to go through with it Please be safe.
