Also make sure no animals run in the middle of the road. I almost ran into one the other day.

I just hope he realizes that, since he already told everyone here that he's gonna do it that there's turning back. He has to do it because endless ridicule < a really shitty death.

Re: My upcoming 100mph attempt
what kind of car are you using? you should just attach your hands and if anything goes wrong jump into the trunk or have your friends pull you in.
-
Re: My upcoming 100mph attempt
if your set on this i recon you should use a van,
put a load of pillows or something in the back, and drive with the back doors open, then hold a rope, and if anything goes wrong (you get wobbles or something) you can just dive into the back of the van..

and who's making bullshit prank calls i was just checking to see if she knew. turn the attitude man, i wasnt cursing at you, no need to curse at me.
what the #### are you gonna do call the cops and tell them that you're going to be speeding on a road at 100mph not only endangering your own life (who cares really) but the lives of anyone else who may happen to come down that road. You're also putting the image of longboarding at risk if you're trying to do stupid #### like that. Its really not even impressive. try learning how to actually skateboard rather and shltrigging your board with washers and thinking that you're tough ####

Re: My upcoming 100mph attempt
You mention you cam easking for constructive opinions and tips.
If you're going to do it, think on the bearings. Normal bearing are not made for spinning that fast. They'll overheat and melt the core of the wheel. Sudden stop is not good.
Go for the best ceramic bearings. Not because they spin faster (because they don't). They run cooler.
Use new ones before each run. the lubricant will all come out at that speed.
Use properly machined hanger faces and precision spacers. They'll help with minimizing heat buildup.
Also, washers in the back is a bad idea.
Apart from making a truck turn they serve as a shock absorber.
At 100 mph any little vibration that goes undampened means losing adherence with that wheel... read start of slide, and since I don't see you as a drifter, most probably a fall.
Check out the gear motorcycle rracers use. They're the only ones that fall at 100mph+ day in and day out without (most of the time) problems.
Duct tape the edge of your gloves to the leathers. A fall at that speed will tend to take your gloves off in an instant.
Helmet needs to be tight, and if possible, wear a go-kart neck brace.
Stay low, and for stopping, I would just let go of the car and become un-aerodynamic. Let the air slow you down. Within a few seconds you'll be below 50mph if you open your arms and stand up, although the force of the wind might just make you lose control.
Practice airbraking.
Good luck!
You'll need that because an expert obviously you're not.
PS - if I was you, I would have just posted the video of you doing 85 with no comments and a few weeks later the other one, with comments.
You're getting lots of abuse without need.
PS2 - I too feel doing it by being pulled is like cheating...

Re: My upcoming 100mph attempt
i told my dad what you want to do and he told me a story one of his friends told him. he said that his friend was riding his bike at around 50+ and his leather burned into his skin and his helmet cracked. he was badly beaten up. my dad says if you hit the floor your not coming back up =] but thats my dad so yeah good luck again!

Yeah, make sure when you want to slow down you don't stand up right away. Kind of just barely get out of tuck first.
100 mph is almost like skydiving haha, any wrong move and you could steer yourself to your doom. I have been pushed by sideways gusts of winds many a time.

Its abundantly clear your no expert either....most bearings have Abec ratings as you may well know, those ratings are based on speeds that skateboards will never see, we are talking WAY past 100mph here. Now 100mph sideloads are something bearings arent made for, but i doubt anyone's going to be sliding any kind of skateboard on any kind of hill going 100mph.

It's abundantly clear you're not mechanically oriented.
I'm an engineer, and ABEC ratings relate for tolerances and ratings. Not sustained high speed use effects.
The bearing might be perfect, but sustained high speed use will bring heat, especially if they're not perfectly aligned (hence my hanger facing, precision spacers and washers remarks).
In motorsports, heat coming from a bearing is dealt with by dissipating it (think of the metal mass on which it's mounted, in a wheel there's only a plastic core, which does not conduct heat and of course has a lower melting point than any metal), forced cooling or using a bigger one.
Since in the case of a skateboard wheel, he can do none of this, I suggest a ceramic one, which will generate less heat.

Re: My upcoming 100mph attempt
first off, i have to say you have balls for even thinking about such an...endeavor. second, please dont do it. at first i thought it was a ballsy idea, but some of the other guys have brought up the point that this could potentially be very, VERY bad for the sport. third, if you do decide to go thru with it, which i cant stress enough that you should not, i would try and stay very close behind the car pulling you. if you are too far back from the car, you'll lose the advantage of having the car break the wind for you, and you'll be at the mercy of 100mph winds, something that could very well toss you from your board. on the other hand, however, being very close behind the car means that, when you do let go, you'll be drafting off the car, and airbraking to slow down will be very difficult.
ps: being on a shorter rope will also help prevent you from drifting out from directly behind the car and into things like, i dunno, oncoming traffic, telephone poles, etc etc
