Its been in the works for a long time now and I am finally ready. Ive kept it from the general silverfish public because as it mostly seems, since im not well known on the fish, i dont know how to skate. Thats how it works right? Well, F that. within the next week or two ill be attempting 100 mph via tow. Since I live in ohio i ditched the whole idea of finding a hill big enough and went straight to a perfectly paved flat long road.
Safety of course is one of my main concerns. I have a nearly brand new leather suit thats never had a fall, spine protector, leather gloves with pucks and fullface helmet. I know what im doing is insanely dangerous so you dont have to give me the safety talk. I know what im getting myself into and what the risks are.
Heres a lame trailer I put together a couple hours ago out of some crappy/stupid footage i had and a shot of the road ill be doing it on.
I will not mention a specific date or location to avoid any trouble. It will be happening VERY soon in the early morning to avoid traffic and I will post up a video very shortly thereafter.
What ill be riding:
Self made drop though board
Randal 180 hangars on 42* front and 35* back with back bushings replaced with a solid stack of washers. Might switch up and put 35* on front when i see how those higher speeds feel.
Abec 11 97mm 78a flywheels.
This is the set up I used to hit 85 today so i might change it depending on how it feels next week.
Rather than turning this into a flamefest i would greatly appreciate any of your thoughts no matter how big or small.
why wouldnt you go for broke and put the 28* plate front and back?
Yeah, I'd go for as much stability as possible (although I wouldn't be attempting this ) . You shouldn't need much turning ability on a straight pull. Maybe 35* front / 28* back. I've never ridden any low angle base plates though, so I'm not sure if stability from lowering the angle is a diminishing return.
ognalawu- thats what you think but once you get on it, i think you'll find its alot harder to "pop" it than it sounds Delta-That is what she said. ognalawu- what are you talking about? no one said what i just said.
some people are more stable on 60* trucks than 28
im guessing he has his setup pretty dialed in, if hes gonna attempt this, so thats probably not relly any issue
make sure your bearings dont seize up
100mph is fast
i would suggest not replacing your bushings with washers.. you would then be sacrificing all control, and that could be deadly
thats the exact reason why i havent posted anything on the fish about this since i started planning.
anyway
my back baseplate is 100% solid because i replaced the bushings with stacks of washers so its all about the front. Ill probably put the 35 on the front. Past that im afraid to make it so stable that it doesnt turn when i need to keep it under me.
It will be off of a speedometer. I will have video of the speedometer, myself and a bunch of other angles. Right now i dont have access to a gps unit. I will get a shot that pans from the speedo to me unedited at speed before i let go.
I see it now, next week in the news, kid dies well atempting foolish act on skateboard.
IMO having a solid back is a horrible idea, you need atleast a bit of give, that road i doubt is 100% straight and you are going to have to corect your turning at one point, and haveing a back truck thats not going to move is a horrible idea becuase your going to get wheel lift.
karrot, i was thinking about that too, Ill play with putting the bushings back in to see what i can do. like i said i want to keep the board under me. thats why ill probably keep the 42 on the front. my biggest problem is that theres no real way for me to test my setup too much at those speeds. If anything does get iffy ill just stop and change my setup. Its not worth it to try to go for it that quick.
please dont do this. i would be truly heart broken if you were to get hurt. just knowing that i knew you were going to try and perform this stunt, it would hit really hard if you were to get seriously injured or even the latter.
Reece. Since im in ohio there arent really many tech runs. The ones that i do have are short and just not worth the walk up the hill so I mostly go for speed.
Sorry if i miss a comment, im trying to reply to everyone.
This is kinda dangerous... Are you going to have a full crew with you in case something happens? Like when Biker Sherlock did it he had a full team that was monitering the wind and everything to make sure it was possible. The only reason he didn't go all the way was cuz of the wind and stuff, and he's a pretty experienced guy. Make sure you take all the precautions and not just leathers and a helmet. You might even consider a motorcycle helmet or something stronger because since you're going straight it won't strain your neck as much.

I have a motorcycle helmet that ill be using rather than my normal DH helmet and ill have a full crew there. most of which will be experienced lifeguards that i work with.
yah replace that solid stack of washers for purple khiros...that just plain out scares me to hear you would use washers at speed instead of bushings. Another thing you should when trying this stunt is get a LONG rope when towing behind a car and have someone reel the rope in from the car once you let go.
I would advise having some sort of emergency backup plan... like... should you lose control, etc. Have signals or some sort of plan in motion in the event of an accident.
Other than that, good luck, can't wait to see if you do it. =)
