New Fullface! [Sharing my stoke and some questions]
Today I picked up my first full face! The Bell Bellistic! It is really comfortable and doesn't impair my field of vision at all, I was happy about that.
I just have a couple of questions regarding full face helmets.
1. I understand the basics of how to make a face shield yourself, but if someone could explain it to me with some more details, I'd appreciate it. I've found the basics in the search but am a little confused still.
2. Does the visor (Sun visor) serve any purpose for DH. I understand how it would be useful for biking but is there any advantage to keeping it on for DH?
But mostly this thread is to share my stoke! I'm super pumped for being able to pick up this helmet! And it was only 65$ Canadian on sale at MEC. (Mountain Equipmen Co-op)

no purpose. take it off and add a face shield

Re: New Fullface! [Sharing my stoke and some questions]
Take off the visor, it gets in the way, if your worried about sun, tint your face shield.
Making a visor is simple, make a template from paper in the shape you want to cover your helmet. Then get some polycarbonate and cut it out in the same shape. Find a way to attach it to your helmet with velcro and use the holes that held your sun visor to attach the face shield to. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me and check out the how to make a visor thread.

Re: New Fullface! [Sharing my stoke and some questions]
Do you have a link to the thread? I've been looking for it because I guessed something like that would be around but I had no luck searching for it.
And thanks for the offer, If I have any more questions I'll make sure to PM you. That should save the rest of the fish some time.

How to make a visor for your Helmet
It sounds complicated but it really isn't, you can cut out a lot of steps also but read through that once and you should get a good idea.
Here's a link to polycarbonate if you don't know where to get it locally:
Ultem Sheets, Delrin, Acetal, Teflon, Plastic, PVC Rods, UHMW and HDPE Sheets
Get the .030.

Re: New Fullface! [Sharing my stoke and some questions]
to make the face shield for my bellistic i just held a sheet of 1/16" lexan over the helmet and traced out a shape that would give good coverage and reach the visor screws, cut that out, screwed it on and velcroed down the corners that popped up.

Re: New Fullface! [Sharing my stoke and some questions]
In IGSA you need a fullface with a secure chin strap and eye protection. (Goggles or visor)

Re: New Fullface! [Sharing my stoke and some questions]
Sweet thanks for the picture. I'm gonna get to making one eventually but I've been busy lately.
And so far I have been very happy with this helmet! It is very comfortable and I still have perfect visibility.

If you really need a visor use a soda bottle, but that's only temporary.

Re: New Fullface! [Sharing my stoke and some questions]
Pete, are those the screws that it came with? I bought my bellistic used and it didn't have the visor. I'm wondering what kind of screws to get to attach the face shield or if I can't buy them aftermarket.

just make sure it is a fullface and IGSA will allow it, they dont care if it's DOT, SNELL or whatever

How temporary? If it lasts longer than 1 or 2 months than I think I'll try it out and just save the template to make a new one when I need it. If it's like a couple weeks I think I'll put in the time.

the main problem with the soda bottle visor is that it will get small wrinkles and folds in it if you're not careful. These will impair your vision. It scratches more easily too.

Re: New Fullface! [Sharing my stoke and some questions]
Well I made one just last night and I see what you mean by the wrinkles!
It took about 5 minutes though and so far it seems to work rather well.
