Re: Are speed checks used in DH (standup speed checks)
Its all about keeping the right distance.
Standups in freeride are about getting as close together as possible through a corner or hairpin without touching. sometimes shoulders rub and sometimes wheels rub. thats when you eat shyt.

I think everyone that is talking about how you shouldn't do standups when riding with other people don't understand how controlled they really are. You can definately fine tune your drifts alot more and control when and where you hook back with a standup drift/slide.
with standups, your center of gravity is higher so you're gripping more and then rather than having to get up from the ground like you would if you put a hand down, you can just apply a little more weight to your back foot and grip right up again.
I say, if you've got the skill for it, then definately go for standups, they're more tunable and plus they just look straight up badass.
edit: I'll go out today and film some standies at as fast as I can go.

If you're going fast enough a pendy should be just fine on 75a's
75a's work great for freerides although they have been broken in for 3 years and they are coning very fast. gumballs btw. great slide tho way way better than all wheels ive tried even otang freerides. just takes a lot of breaking in.

The internet clearly needs to be made more aware of Jeremy Ross.
He'll throw a toeside stander at 40 on his Flushcut and look perfectly happy doin' it.

The video is on this page. Yes, you have to watch it to see it. But that only makes sense, right?
And I'm pretty sure the Hugh being referred to is Kibbling... I do have a chance of being wrong, though... doesn't seem like it.
Re: Are speed checks used in DH (standup speed checks)
Stand up pre drift during a race are not the most efficient...
As it's been said, you might see Kevin throwing one, for fun, but I doubt you'll ever see anyone in an tight final heat throwing one "coz it's efficient"...
Stylish yes, but not the best...
Normal pre-drift are definitly required in many race course though...
(Yeah I know... King Brian is kind of an exeption...)

Lets see more huge standies! post yer best!
here we have another fine example (not me):
Wow the only good part of the video was that switchy slidethingy they did the rest was kinds dull and his wheels must be super ####ed and slidey. There's so little resistance when he's sliding he can hold them forever >>
