Toeside drifts...I can't hold them for the life of me :(
Ok, I know the best thing to do in these scenarios is to practice and all, but I've been getting nothing but road rash every single time I try one of these.
Just today I tore my rotary cuff from a bad fall, which is a total pain in the ass, and I figure I might as well try to learn the dynamics of it first.
I realized that my biggest problem is the fact that my center of gravity is still on the board, which is causing me to fall over backwards during the slide.
I'm also having problems figuring out how to position myself properly, and recognize the correct angle of the board
When I entered the drift the board slid perpendicular to the road (which I'm guessing is bad, I think I entered it too hard, do you want to keep all your weight on your front foot? because that's what I was doing and it slid into a 90 deg angle pretty quickly), except my body was still in a toeside turn position (which I'm guessing is wrong, you're supposed to lean out as far as you can right?). After falling I felt that I should have been pushing hard out with my knees so that the momentum wouldn't cause me to fall backwards.
Then this kind of brings up the question, what is the difference really between a toeside slide and a toeside drift? If my legs should have been extended so I don't fall off isn't that just a toeside slide with a hand on the rail instead of being in the air?
Could anyone please explain this to me in detail? I don't have problems with backside drifts because it's easier to control and stay balanced

i just learned to slide but i can slide toeside better than heel side. when your going into the turn put your hand in front of the board and take weight off the board make sure you are holding onto the front of your board with your other hand and you will start to feel your board coming out from under you and just try to hold it as long as you need to get through the turn. thats all i can tell you without a picture, good luck bro. keep shreadin

Unless you are predrifting you really just need to go into the corner as if you are going to grip it and look where you are trying to go through the whole corner. Don't try and drift unless you are kicking it out to scrub speed. Start slower and work your way up too. Don't just go into the corner full on trying to learn how to control your drift. If you do it a little faster each time and just stay in your comfort zone for a little then slowly go a little harder you'll know exactly what you need to do and you'll start drifting more and more and it will be fully in your control.

I learned how to toeside drift today and just hit the corner hard and grabbed the front of my board and powered it threw the corner. I would recommend using knee pads though cuz my front knee scraped a few times. Lots of weight on the gloves too.

I found a nice hill in the low 30s with a 90 turn into a side street and I just did that for a day. Like the other guys said... It's like a normal corner. Try to keep the grip. Speed was the key for myself. I was accidently then later trying pre drift toe side today at a parking garage and ended up over drifting most of the time. It was wet and oily and had cracks with patches of dry to catch up on though so I didn't feel too bad.
High siding sucks btw I have sympathy. I usually get hurt that way.
